Beaches Cruise-In @ Portland PIR / June 4, 2008 [Oregon]

Beaches Cruise-in . . .
is held every Wednesday evening thru the summer. It is at Portland International Raceway @ about 4pm. Cost is $5 per car

The Cruise-In started at Beaches restaurant, but got so big they had to move it. The $5 cost covers the cost of using PIR (edit=& helps raise money for kids in need ).
It is not a driving event. You park, hang out, look at cars and such.

It sounds like a good time and a great place for us to hang out on occasion. I am planning on being there on June11th. See you there!

Here is a web site with more info: BEACHES Cruise-In

More info is also available at Beaches Restaurant & Bar - Summertime Cruisin'

Meet at 3:30 at Lowe's Delta Park parking lot

Attendees:
Bagpypr - Mean Sol
Celt/Saffyre - Midnight RL
dbaker - Mysterious Sol

I'll try to make it for a while. I'll have to meet you at PIR, since I have meetings this afternoon.

Well, we had a good time. 3 Sols & 2 Skys attended. And my hubby also brought our 68 Cougar. Lots of people wanted to talk to us about our cars.

I think that the 'Vette drivers will decide to park further away from us the next time we go because they were not getting near as much attention.

I'd say the $5 per car we each paid was cheap entertainment for an evening . . .
lots of cool cars to look at, live music, & drag racing to entertain the attendees, a raffle, and food & beverages for sale

Each summer, this venue raises approximately $100,000 for children in need in our area.

It was a lot of fun. I've lived here for years and never gotten around to attending one of these. For a weekly event there were a surprising number of very nice vehicles. Celt, thanks for coordinating!

I appreciated the poor, neglected Corvettes nearby. When people walked right past the Vettes and asked my opinion of the pros & cons of the Sky, it was easy to point to the Vette next to my car and begin the conversation with "half the price."

Considering the attention we got, Saturn should send a representative to these things. I'll bet they'd sell a lot of cars.

And in the case of one of the Vette's sitting there - ours are 1/3 the price - that '08 Corvette Z06 goes for around $100K.

As for the coordinating credit - Bagpypr gets part of it.

I think Saturn does best letting owners promote the cars - we know more about them than most of the reps or sales people.
And we handed out a number of cards for the Pacific Northwest Roadsters.
I am pretty sure we will have at least 1 or 2 new paid members from that little bit of effort.

Dave - hope we see ya at the run in the Gorge later this month .

Good point. We're Saturn's "guerrilla marketing" department.

I'm definitely planning be at the Gorge event. Probably only for one day, but I'm sure looking forward to it.
