NAPA VALLEY SAFARI WEST TOUR by WCKCC [Sunday June 22]

Discover The Spirit of Africa in The heart of The Wine Country. June 22 is the date for this special WCKCC event hosted by Ebonysky. We will gather between 9:30 & 10:00 AM in the parking lot of the Marriott Hotel, 3425 Solano Ave. in Napa. To get there heading north on Hwy 29, take Hwy 29 thru Napa and take the exit 19/Redwood Rd. off ramp. Turn left onto Redwood Rd. heading over Hwy 29 and make an immediate right turn onto Solano Ave. then look to the left for the Marriott Hotel entrance into the parking lot and turn left toward the south lot. We will depart at 10:15 then head up the Silverado Trail past many beautiful vineyard's to Calistoga. After regrouping, we head west on Petrified Forest Road to Porter Creek Road, travel 3 miles in dense woods to Franz Valley Road and the entrance to Safari West arriving about 11:45. As a "Group Reservation" we will be parking inside the Wildlife Preserve on a lawn area next to a huge aviary. Our African ranch style BBQ lunch will be served at noon sharp, and we have our own private gazebo eating area overlooking our parked Kappa's. Following lunch our African Queen Safari Trek (a safari vehicle which can seat up to 35) takes us to see giraffes, antelope, ostrich and watusi cattle. Then a 40 minute walking tour thru the aviary and other exciting animal habitats. Our guided tour end's about 2:30 and there will be some time to take pictures, explore the grounds and walk thru the Trading Post before we fire up the cars and head back towards Calistoga on Franz Valley Road. This is a beautiful rural country road with some bends & dips in it. Hooking up with Hwy 128, we drive south toward Napa stopping in Saint Helena at the Big Dipper ice cream parlor where there is plenty of curb parking right in front across the street. This has become a monthly lunch run tradition.

The total cost per person for the Safari West Adventure is $49 due at the start of the run in Napa. This reflects a discounted group rate and we must have 20 participants to be considered a group. Your host's will be required to deposit 50% of the invoice based on a count of 20 guest's, 30 days prior to secure our reservation date. We can have more people join the run after May 22, and you do not have to be a member of WCKCC to join the run, but if we do not have 20 confirmed signup's by May 20th, I might have to cancel out on Safari West. So, sign up early and take advantage of the chance to discover this 400 acre natural habitat Wildlife Preserve in the heart of Northern California's wine country...home to over 400 exotic mammals and birds. GO DO IT!

Some necessary details; non-wckcc member's must sign a simple waiver before the cruise begins and No driver can consume alcohol.

I really didn't mean to start something with the stop for ice cream after Ed and Barbs run up Hyw 49 to the gold country. But if it continues I can live with it. Like Barb said "There's always room for ice cream"

Love the Safari West venue and be sure to bring your zoom lenses for your cameras (of course for the Ostrichs you won't need it - they stick their heads in the jeep and try to pull your hair - not scary...just fun)!

I hope we can get the group rate discount - so talk this up and let's get the 20 folks! Even if we don't get the discount I hope we don't cancel - it is worth the full price!

Everybody please contact those Kappa owners that you know of who do not follow the Forums regularly. We need 20 or more people signed up by May 20 to be considered a group, thus the group rate.

Everyone who reads this thread needs to know we do not need your money in advance but if you do sign up, do it before May 20 and then consider yourself a FIRM participant. We will be counting on you to show up. If for some reason you have to back out PM me right away and tell me. Otherwise, it's the honor system. You do not have to be a WCKCC member to join the run.

We have some friends who would love to join us however, even though they are driving a GM product (C5 Vette), they are not in a SKY or Sol.

They are nice people, really!

Remember, we need 20 firm sign up's (people) by May 20 to secure our Safari West Group rate. BUT, you can sign up for this WCKCC event after that date. Our only limitation is the African Queen Tour which can seat up to 35.

ITINERARY UPDATE:
9:30 - 10:00AM meet at the Napa Marriott Hotel, south parking lot. The Marriott is located at 3425 Solano Ave. Napa. From Hwy 29 take exit 19/Redwood Rd. and go west to Solano Ave. Turn right onto Solano and look for the entrance to the Marriott Hotel which is just a few hundred feet down Solano Ave. Check in with Bill or Patricia, your Hosts. Payment due at this time and non-members sign WCKCC waiver.

Approx. 10:15AM Cruise begins up Hwy 29 then we cross over to the Silverado Trail and continue up the Napa Valley to Calistoga. We regroup in Calistoga and hook up with "flyingz".

Approx. 11:30AM arrive and park inside the Safari West Wildlife Preserve. Cruise guests driving cars other than Sols or Sky's are requested to park (free) in the lot just outside the main entrance to Safari West. You can walk in from there.

Noon: Lunch is served. (vegetarian choices available if we give three days notice, so do not wait till the last day)

1:00PM We board the African Queen for a tour into the lower "Serengeti" followed by a narrated 40 minute walk thru a huge aviary, cheetahs, Lemur Island, and more.

2:30 - 3:00PM free time to do whatever and don't forget to check out the Trading Post. (shopping for the ladies)

3:00PM We hit the road and drive a narrow winding two lane blacktop thru some beautiful Napa County countryside coming out on Hwy 128 heading toward St. Helena.

Approx. 4:00PM We make a stop in St. Helena for ice cream at the Big Dipper located at 1336 Oak ave. Old time atmosphere!

After our ice cream, most if not all of us will be heading south on Hwy 29 toward Napa and we can continue to caravan together. Otherwise this event is over.

Pete, Let your friends (with the Saturn) know they are welcome, including the Corvette couple. Be sure they know the cost is $49 per person (children under 12 $30 plus tax & gratuity) due at the starting point and sign club waiver. They will be asked to park their car outside the park. We want only the Kappa's on display inside the park. It looks more like a 'car club' that way too.

If they are serious about going I would like to get them on the list by May 20. You can list them if you want.
