Official SoCal Caravan to Nationals Thread

I will edit this post as we get closer to include exact details.

7:00 AM Meet Up @ Denny's in Victorville

After talking to a few of you through pm here and on Skyroadster it looks as though the Denny's @ 14244 Valley Center Dr, Victorville, CA will be the ideal spot to meet up @ 7:00 am.

If you are pretty sure you are going to make it or you know for sure go ahead and post in this thread so we can get a head count.

Nationals from Santa Barbara Leaving Thursday

We are planning on leaving Santa Barbara on Thursday, taking the 126 to the 5 to the 210? to the 15. Would love to caravan with any others heading to the meet that day - that way.

Hi EndiSky,

Here are the details you requested:
1 - I am DEFINITELY going to the Las Vegas Nationals! :-)
2 - Ontario is my preferred jump off point
3 - Driving a Chili Pepper Red Sky Redline - driving solo
4 - I have registered and have a room reserved!

Hopefully others will show interest in this caravan

Sincerely,

Steve

OK, I just spent the last 4 days in Vegas and live on the North side of L.A. county.
- Here is my take on things -
Everyone goes to Vegas on Friday and everyone leaves Vegas on Sunday.
Everyone in L.A. proper takes the 210 -> 15 route to Vegas and that can make the Cajon Pass stop and go traffic from Rancho Cucamonga to HWY 138 junction from about 12:00 PM on. (Fridays)
If you leave Vegas after 1:00 PM on a Sunday expect to take about 4-5 hours to get to Victorville. We departed In-N-Out on Tropacana at 12:00 PM and it took us 4 hours to get to Victorville yesterday (sunday).

sbcomposer,
Consider the 126 to 5 (south) to 14 (north) to Pearblossom HWY to 138 HWY to 18 HWY to I-15. It sounds complex, but for the most part each HWY actually runs to the next. Google it and instead of going down the I-5 all the way to L.A. you just go to the 14 and up through Palmdale to Victorville.
Honestly it doesn't matter on a Thursday and your route is all freeway. The Palmdale to Victorville route has some true "highways" like 126 with stop lights.
However, I know I can go from Pearblossom HWY in Palmdale to I-15 in 60 minutes any day of the week any time since that's my route to and from work.

I personally don't know if I'm going. Chances are we are not since we just spent a week in Vegas - have to go back this weekend for NHRA and then again for the Nationals. WOW that's a lot of Vegas - if I can ditch my NHRA obligation then maybe I can convince my better 1/2 to make the trip.. especially since we can take the sky. No cruise control A/C on and a week's worth of clothes in our 2002 SC1 sucks on a 4 hour trip.

I'll be catching up with you guys in Vegas. I have a couple of detours to make, so won't be there till about 3 PM. I know, I know, the traffic will be bad, but I will be coming from Hemet about 11 AM so it shouldn't be as bad as coming through LA, etc. I'm looking forward to seeing you all again. Last year was a blast and this year will be even better! C'ya there!
I LOVE MY SKY!!!!

Yes, I am planning on going to the monthly dinner. I will have everything packed and ready to go for Vegas so I'm foot-loose and fancy-free Thursday night! It is at Fuddruckers in Lake Forest, right?

Trip Update

Just want to make sure everyone is on the same page when it comes to the timeline of the trip.

Please be prepared to leave around 7am. If you plan on eating before we take off please plan accordingly.

There is a Shell gas station across the freeway everyone can fill up at, if you could do that before you arrive at Denny's it would be best.

We are looking at a 166 mile trip.
We'll do a quick stop in Baker for a potty break and to grab a cup of coffee or a quick bite. 10-15 mins. Then be on our way to Vegas.

Official Timeline.
7:00->Leave Victorville
8:30->Arrive in Baker
8:45->Leave Baker
10:00-10:15 -> Arrive in Vegas @ Stratosphere

These numbers will probably work out pretty close, We hit a little traffic that will slow us down and then make it up on the strait-aways. I would personally like to cruise at a good clip of speed but nothing insane or reckless driving fast (expensive ticket!) but we can all talk about that in person.

For those that don't know me personally, My real name is Nick and I drive a Sunburst Sky 2.4 with no badges in the back, no plates (at all) and I have the Billett Grill.

My Numbers are 951-852-5707 or 951-852-5772
If you are coming, save them both.
If anyone has any 2-way radios that would help, I have one set.
