Recon to Mt Hamilton [May 4, 2008 Northern California]

Okay so we are a little nuts I guess. Like the drive to Yosemite was not enough for us yesterday. With nothing on our agenda for the day we are going to do a little recon to Mt Hamilton's Lick Observatory for a future run. If there are any Sky's or Sol's in the area, give us a honk or a wave.

Lick Observatory

Well the drive was pretty cool to Lick Observatory on Mt Hamilton. I guess there are a few routes in we took the one from Livermore to San Jose, it took a few hours that way. I hear that there is also a route from Patterson that might be worth checking out too. I think this would make a great run but I think spring might be the best time to go, when the hills are all really green and lots of wildflowers, I will post some pics too. We even found a place way back there for Karen to shop at!!! Sorry Gary couldn't help myself

We do that run alot - Best way, has been voted, is from Milpitas end going North. I don't see much of a difference.

1) Which ever direction your traveling slow WAY down and keep as Quite as you can 2mi. into Observatory and 2mi. out of the Observatory - Rangers are ticketing anyone who is loud - all the Observatory people work at night and sleep in the daytime. The Rangers were really nice, a year + ago when they ask if the car clubs would spread the word

2) Traveling 50 + miles north from the Observatory there is a split in the road, turn right and you go to Patterson stay strait and you go to Livermore.

3) The Patterson Route is the faster way in/out, But you lose a tremendous number of real tight corners.

4)Anyway, at the turn is a small building [if going to Patterson on the left) &
going to livermore on the right ] great food and VARY LOW PRICES - We stop there every time we get near it - Last time we ordered 2 - 12oz beers & two lg. snack bags of Planters Peanuts and the other car said he would pay - cost of all was $3.60 - he turned to me and said " Are we still in California " - They also cook to order all the food.
