SoCal Monthly Dinner [Thursday Nov. 20 7:30 PM Mammalucco's 2500 E. Imperial Brea]

Hello everyone.

I've been involved in several car clubs whether they are official or unofficial. One thing I have enjoyed, yet noticed a lack of lately, is regular informal meets. They tend to be a good chance to just hang out and chat about the cars as well as get to know the drivers a little better. Sort of like the old school hot rod meets I'm sure some of you may have been to before. One idea we have adopted from the Lotus community is a monthly dinner. Typically this is something that is held at a set day each month and a set place. For example, the 3rd Thursday of the month at the Macaroni Grill in Temecula.

My question for everyone here is, would you be interested in such an event? We are thinking of trying it out the 20th of this month. 7:30 at Fidel's Little Mexico in Carlsbad.

Comments? Suggestions?

Regards,

Brian

Sounds awesome. I am going to be out of town that weekend, but I would certainly do my best to make it to the next one...

I would be interested in such a meet. Would it be a traveling meeting or in the same place each month?

There used to be a meeting the first friday or saturday of every month in the Southbay area near me for all car enthusiasts... it would rotate between a few different strip malls...they had to cancel it because they started getting too many gang banger types on either motorcycles or low riders showing up...it's really too bad...it was so much fun when I was a kid.

Well typically we have kept it the same place to avoid confusion. Everyone knows its X place at X time on X day. That is the plus side there. With a travling meet, it would be nice because we might get more people to go. If it was always in Temecula for instance, the people in San Diego might not want to go. But if it were in Temecula one month, SD the next, Newport the next, etc. it would give everyone a chance to have a close meet. Each way has its advantages, so I guess what would you prefer?

By the way, would there be a better weekend this month for anyone? If no one can make it the 20th, we would deffinitely want to change the date. Maybe make it start in Feb if neccesary.

A monthly informal dinner sounds pretty cool. Geogaphy's probably always going to be a challenge. Don't remember how far Carlsbad was, but may limit some of us in N LA County from hitting some meets.

:Agree: if we were to do this, then it would have to move around. Personally I think Carlsbad is probably too far for most LA and even Orange county Sky Owners.

It takes me more than an hour to get from Long Beach to Carlsbad, depending on traffic, so N LA would be at least 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 hours. Personally, I would like to see a floating meeting, moving to different areas, since we have such a wide base of members spread out over So. Cal. That gives those close to Carlsbad the opportunity to drive their Skys out of their area! Or find where the greatest concentration of members is and hold it in that area.

Vegas would be cool, but let's wait. Heard it snowed there today. My son called me just to let me know. Love Vegas...lived there for 5 years and just moved back to So. Cal. last year. Remember guys, "What happens there, stays there!"

As your "other border state," we would like to officially extend an offer of neighborly friendliness to the So Cal Skys, and suggest that we plan some get-togethers in 2007. We will definately be going your way with an overnight in 2007, and in fact we are planning a long-weekend drive-out-of-the-heat event every month during the summer months, so you will probably see many Arizona Saturn Sky owners camped on your doorstep during the summer.

Regarding monthly dinners, we do them in Arizona almost every month, plus we recently started doing a midweek after-work coffee event usually scheduled as a last-minute thing (send out an email a few days ahead of time). At the last coffee event, we had about 20 people, so we totally took over a Starbucks for an evening.

Only about 30-40% of our club members are really into the car stuff (car shows, clinics, etc), but 100% of us have to eat. At our 2nd annual meeting this weekend, our club president wrote his motto on the wall: "I wanna drive some place and then I wanna eat something."
