Take Me Out to the [Angels] Ballgame! [July 21, Anaheim, Southern California]

Hey, gang! I just scored some good tickets to the Angels on Monday, July 21st at 7:05PM. They are playing the Cleveland Indians that night, which means that the rude and obnoxious Boston Red Sox fans (that I refer to as "Mass Holes") will have moved on and it should be an enjoyable game.

It is also a "Del Taco Days" discount night, so you can score tickets for half price! Here's how you order:

Follow this link:

2008 Angels Schedule | AngelsBaseball.com: Schedule

Then click on the little green [T] in the box for July 21st. That takes you to the Ticketing screen. Enter a code of "DT6" in the "PROMOTIONS AND SPECIAL OFFERS" box, and select the number of tickets to purchase at that discount in the little drop-down to the left of the code box. Choose "Terrace Box" or "Third Base Side" to end up close to me - I'll be in section 204 with Mrs. John D... This is the lowest level of the stadium, in the shade, with a great view of the main scoreboard - excellent seats! - and with the Del Taco discount, only fourteen bucks apiece.

So if you want to head on out to the ballpark, I think this would be a great night to do it. Post a reply here if you think you will make it, and maybe we will be able to coordinate a specific parking location.

Hope to see you at the game!

See? Why do Boston fans have to behave this way?

Capacity at Angel Stadium is 45,050 - and the average attendance this year has been 40,550 through the All-Star Break (versus 37,626 for Fenway.)

I don't know if they're jealous that the Angels have a better record than the BoSox right now, a bigger lead in their division (we didn't rely on a 7-game losing streak by the Rays to eek into first place) or the fact that the Angels have better home attendance (1,865,309 through 46 games) versus the BoSox (1,730,822 through 46 games.) Or, perhaps is that the Angels can actually win on the road (13 games above .500), while the boys from Beantown are horrible away from Fenway (8 games BELOW .500 this year).

It is exactly this type of "diss the other team - regardless of the facts" that makes the Boston fans so insufferable.

That's why I elected for a night against the Indians.

In the mean time... Go Yankees!

I thought I took it very well, thank you, by pointing out the truth.

I just want to invite my buddies out to a ballgame where the fans of the opposing team will be civil. That's all. I have found fans of the midwestern teams to generally be good-humored and generous. I prefer to go to games where the Angels play the Indians, Tigers, White Sox, Royals, Twins or Rangers. The fans from Baltimore, and Tampa also tend to be very nice. And the Toronto fans have exemplary conduct, and we get to hear "O, Canada" before the game, too, as an added bonus. So far this year I have been to games with KC, Tampa, Texas, Toronto, Baltimore and my home-town team, the Tigers. All were pleasant.

There can be some tough division rivaly sentiments from Oakland fans (the west usually comes down to "us or them.") And the Mariners, God love 'em, got stomped pretty good by the Angels last year and are having a helluva time this year - so they can be grumpy. Those can get a little rowdy.

Back east, Yankees/Red Sox is always bitter and loud, and their nastiness tends to spill over when the teams come out west. Yankees fans are proud and arrogant, but then the Yankees are in class by themselves when it comes to franchises. The Red Sox fans carried a pretty big chip for all the years that the Yankees routinely crushed them. Now that they broke the curse, they are downright insufferable - more annoying than the Yankees fans ever were.

Cleveland has "Fans" come out to the ballpark. Boston has Mass Holes.

I calls 'em as I sees 'em, and so I made my choice of the night to attend.

And don't feel bad - The Red Sox being fourth in attendance in the American League isn't too bad. You can pick on a lot of teams for having empty Stadiums, but you were ignorant to make that accusation about the Angels. Maybe someday Boston will be able to have a fan base as big as the Angels or the Tigers. But probably never the Yankees. Ain't nobody (and especially not Boston) ever going to compete with them.

Thank you. They ARE two good teams... I think we can agree on that. The statistic of the Sox being .765 at Fenway is pretty outrageous. It is such a quirky park. The Angels always struggle there, but this year they're 2 out of 3 at Fenway so far this year. We head into Fenway again for 3 July 28th through 30th, after hosting Boston in Anaheim on the 18th through the 20th. Games between division leaders are always exciting.

I think the most amazing statistic for the Angels is their road record of 31-18 in hostile ballparks. Only the Phillies and Cards also have winning records on the road - but .543 for the Phils and .553 for the Redbirds pale in comparison to the Angels .633. The Yankees are presently at a respectable .500 on the road.

Boston is gonna have to do better than their .420 on the road (or continue to kick absolute butt at Fenway) in the 2nd half if they want a shot at the AL East title.
