The WCKCC has been provided permission to take 20 cars and 40 participants to the top of the hill at Hearst Castle.
The trip will start at the Hearst Castle Visitor's Center at 9:30 with check-in and at 10:00 the 20 cars being escorted up the hill to the Castle (Can you imagine the photo opportunities?) The Museum Director, Hoyt Fields, will provide a personal tour of the grounds and Castle to the WCKCC Participants. The group will then exit the hill and return to the Visitor Center at 12:30. The cost to transverse the hill would be $25 for each car.
The only two opportunities provided to us is EITHER Tuesday September 15th OR Thrusday September 17th. To accomplish this unique run we are asking those that would like to participate to vote in the attached poll to select the date that they would prefer. The date must be selected and provided to the Museum Director by next Monday.
Once the date has been determined we have a tentative motel accommodations at the Cavalier Inn in San Simeon for participants.
If Tuesday is selected, I would anticipate that we would arrive as groups from the south and north/central via runs that would be planned by their respective districts on Sunday evening, participate in several local runs in the San Luis Obispo area on Monday, participate at Hearst Castle on Tuesday, and head back to our respective areas Tuesday afternoon.
If Thrusday is selected, I would anticipate that we would arrive in groups on Wednesday evening, participate at Hearst Castle on Thrusday, participate in several local runs in the San Luis Obispo area on Friday, and head back to our respective areas Saturday or Sunday.
I realize that this is a week-day run right after school starts and it may be difficult for many to schedule time off from work. However, every attempt to schedule a day closer to (friday/monday) or on the weekend (saturday/sunday) was met with a negative response due to tourist activity, staffing needs, and shuttle bus requirements.
I inquired regarding the possibility of having boths dates, if we had more than 20 cars expressing an interest which was also met with a negative response. We are limited to 20 cars and 40 participants. In addition, the authorization to go to the top of the hill was provided to the WCKCC, so the participants must be WCKCC members for insurance and liability purposes.
If you are interested in attending this event, please vote for the date that best meets your availability and include a Post expressing your interest. Since this is several months in the future, I know it will be hard to select, but it will aslo give you time to plan.
Thank You and I hope this will work out, because this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity.
