WCKCC Transformers Drive-In Movie night in SoCal [July 7, 2007]

The new, live action "Transformers" movie is coming out on the 4th of July. They've updated the vehicles the character's transform into, and the Autobots look like a General Motors ad . Jazz, second in command of the Autobots, will transform into a "modified" Solstice. I'm sure his mods give him more than just a few extra ponies under the hood.

At any rate, I thought it'd be really cool to get a group together to go see what will surely be an Oscar-worthy film, especially if that group includes a large showing of Kappas. I've already started negotiating the details. The fine people at the Mission Tiki drive-in in Montclair, CA seem pretty excited about the prospect of us joining them for an evening of fun. The plan so far is to get together at the theatre a couple hours before the movie starts, enjoy each other's company and some good BBQ, and watch the movie.

The votes have been tallied, people have had the opportunity to voice their opinions, and a decision has been made. WCKCC will be having a movie night at the Mission Tiki Drive-in in Montclair, CA on Saturday, July 7, 2007, and a good time will be had by all.

While my inspiration has been the first real movie connection for the Solstice, I don't want that to make it a Sol exclusive event. I'm looking to fill the place to capacity. If the assortment of cars are more diverse than the diversity on the screen, that's great. Sky, Sol, Camaro, Top Kick (tall vehicles in the back, please), f-22, anyone with wheels, get them all to RSVP for this.

The first question is, when? July 4 is a Wednesday. So far, the suggestions I've received have been for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Sunday. What day(s) would be good for you?

And the 4th ain't gonna work for most people. I think Friday would be the best bet.

The Mission Tiki is one of the few Drive-ins left in SoCal, and the people over there seem pretty cool. You should check out their website, it has a photo gallery of other events they've held.

I didn't really want to limit the dates before finding out which way people were leaning, but I already figured more people will be interested in a weekend show.

One of the things we're trying to work out is about doin food. I've got a couple of leads, but I'll need to find out more about when people want to go, how many will attend, what they're interested in doing, and what the management will let us do.

Anyway, John, spread the word amongst your people . Let me know if you come up with any ideas for this. After the success of the Rim of the World run, It'll be great to see you all again.

First...it is not the Holiday

Second ...it is not the First Release day of the movie (those are always busy days)

Third...I have Fridays off!!!

That is an amazing idea... I work funky hours so Wed, Thur, Friday I can't make it.. but i could make it for Sunday... what a cool idea.. and I've never been to a drive in movie.

the 6th or the 7th work great for us. I'm driving to and from santa barbara this summer. leaving there on friday afternoon, and heading back up sunday afternoons.

This sounds like a lot of fun. I am not sure i will be able to make it but I will try.
Can you imagine a line of Sols and Sky in the drive-in. We should all lift our hoods and trunk lids at the same time. The our people on the drive-in will think our cars are "TRANSFORMING"!
