Major Sky Damage - Looking for a good body shop!

I went on a little cruise up to Estes Park this last Saturday. Stopping for a bite in Loveland my Sky got smashed in on the right side by a kid in a parking lot. Luckily there's only minor injuries with my passenger, but the car has significant damage.

The real problem now is I have no idea where to take my car. It's in my parent's garage in Longmont right now, but I need to find a reputable high quality body shop that has experience with 'Kappas' to work on it. I'm not that familiar with Denver or its shops yet.

The other guy's insurance is going to pay for it all since he was at fault. They said the car is new enough that they can/will order all-new parts for it from the manufacturer.

I had numerous very bad experiences with body shops in the Springs with my WRX with shoddy work, refurbished parts, bad color matching and painting, just to name a few things. They didn't even replace everything that got broken.

Anyway, I have a rental car and have towing coverage. The car is in Longmont and I'm in Downtown Denver, but it can be taken anywhere.

These are the suggestions I've received so far, but I have no idea how to pick the best one. I am open to others if somebody has one.

Ouch! Really sorry to see that, but glad your passenger's injuries were minor.

I'd go with the first shop, assuming you trust your friend's judgment and he/she is happy with the work they did on the Sol. A self-proclaimed top ten ranking doesn't do too much for me, nor does the Saturn dealer's recommendation since they've only been dealing with metal cars for about two years.

Good luck!

Sorry for your troubles!

I would say stop at all three and look at the work they are doing and judge for yourself, or call the most expensive car dealer in your area (ie: Ferrari, Mercedes, BMW) and see who they use.

ANd experience with Kappa'a means nothing, first of all they are new cars, so not many people will have experience with them anyway. And second, there is no front end/engine damage which is when you want them to have experience. Body work is Body work, paint is paint.

Is it just me or is our rear quarter panels appear to be Fibreglass????

Good Luck

That looks like Fibre Glass but picture is far away, but are you saying that the Quarter panels (over the rear wheels) is not metal? Because I have a small ding in mine from something I dropped on it, it looked like metal to me!

That pic sure looks like plastic. So essentially the only steel body panels are the trunk lid, the hood and the doors?

Maybe a repair shop specializing in Corvette repairs would have more expertise in dealing with these materials and construction.

The rear quarters on mine are all steel just had them replaced back in january. If you are not sure take a magnet and see if it sticks. No sticky no metal

Post accident thoughts

Don't forget to research and ask for "diminished value compensation". As the car has been in an accident it WILL be on record in Carfax, etc, so when you go to sell eventually, you will get a lower price than you would if it had not been damaged.

Good luck!

I hope you find a place to get it fixed. Sure looks ugly with that crease down the side.

Amaizing what parking lots and cars will do, but Estes Park is a tourist spot and people are too busy to watch what their doin.

See ya Soon!

Sorry.. getting back to this late. The part OVER the wheels, which yes, is the tradiitinal quarter panerl.. is all metal.

The back of the car, is one solid piece of plastic. If ya look at the seems, it extends to the sides of the car so the side corner on the bottom is plastic

Regarding fiberglasss on the back... it is very flexible, bends... and I dinged mine and put a small pressure dent in it... the body shop was able to fix it with a hot air gun to warm the spot and push it back. I dont think fiberglass can do that.

I took mine to a Pontiac dealer that has a good body shop. They were the only ones I could find that were experenced with Kappas. They were also able to get the parts quickly from GM.

That sucks, does it not just piss you off that this happens and it is not your fault. I know the feeling.

I would go with whoever has given you a good recommendation but also, I called Saturn and asked them where they take their cars to be fixed if any body work needs to be done. That is where I took mine,I figure if the dealer is happy and these people know the car then that is better than picking one out of the blue. Post pictures when your baby is fixed.
