RMSSC Larimie to Snowy Mountains Cruise Aug 9&10

Host :
SamVanWhy

The group would like to meet @ 10 A.M. Saturday, August 9, at the Alameda Park & Ride. Exit I-25 @ Alameda going East and it is well marked where the Park & Ride is--it is between I-24 & Broadway, Denver, Colorado

We will then take off for Fort Collins BY 10:15 A.M. & meet at the rest area near Prospect & I-25 N. bound. We should be there by 11:30 A.M. From there we will go on to Mulberry Street, aka Hwy 14, and then to Fort Collins and take 287 to Laramie.

That will get us there in time for lunch at the Overland--downtown Laramie (one block w of Ivinson--one of the main streets running n-s) right by the railroad track..
After lunch, I know that some want to tour Historic Ivinson Mansion
Home of the Laramie Plains Museum
603 E. Ivinson Ave. Laramie WY 82070
307.742.4448 - laramiemuseum@bresnan.net

We will then go to Vedauwoo and Ames Pyramid, then back to Laramie to check in our rooms before dinner @ Jeffrey's ...on Ivinson.

Sam got a reservation for Aug 9 @ Best Western Laramie Inn & Suites, through Hotel-Guides.us - US & Canada Hotels, Motels - See All Discounts. The rate was $85.

Sunday, meet after breakfast and take off for the Snowy Range driving the Snowy Mountain Highway and check out

CAMPGROUND NAME: Ryan Park

NEAREST CITY/TOWN: Saratoga

GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 8,000 ft.

The campground is composed of two loops with a mixture of
conifers of Aspen. The sites range from widely spaced with long
aprons to being very close together. The campground is
convenient to State Rt. 130 (Snowy Range Scenic Byway). It is
formerly the location of a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp
in the 1930s and a POW camp from 1942 through 1945 for Italian
and German prisoners. Interpretive signs describe the POW camp's
design, management and history.

From there, we'll come back to Colorado & go to Walden, then catch HWY 14 toward Ft. Collins, but then S on 27 across Stove Prairie Rd. to Masonville, then on to Loveland, and then home.

Please PM rob the elder or pirate60 to let them know if you will join us, and provide Sam with your cell phone #. Let them know where you will meet us--if you want to meet somewhere besides the Alameda Park & Ride or the rest area near Fort Collins, let them know. Also, let them know if you will be joining us for lunch and/or dinner so Sam can make reservations.

Should be a beautiful and fun ride.

Thanks

Great Cruise!

The trip to Larimie WY was very scenic. The lunch at the Overland was sooo goood! Best buf burger i've ever had, beer wasn't bad either. The new friends was great!
The Iverson Mansion was really interesting, to think back in the 1800 these people had these kinds of luxuries was mind numbing.
Never been to the the Ames pyramid or those fantastic rock formations- the Vedauwoo.
We were just sorry we couldn't stay for supper or tomorrows trip to the Snowy Mountains.

Thank's Sam for a great cruise!!
