What kind of "challenges" are there? I have never been to one but am very interested.

rally challenges revealed

Well, like you are told to go LEFT at every "T" intersection ("T" is defined for you). But when you get to the first T, you also have a route instruction that says "Right on Elm," and this is Elm St. Which way do you go? The "General Instructions" will have a priority list that tells you that, but you have to either remember it, or know when and where to look it up. If you can't figure it out, and try both ways, you discover that they both end you up on the same road going the same way, so what difference did it make? Along one of those two routes was a sign that you are supposed to find (or not), so the rallymaster can tell which way you went by the sign that you found.

Or you are looking to turn on "Jones." All the streets you pass are on the right with big green street signs, and none of them say Jones. But part way along this section, around a curve where it was hard to see among the weeds and trees, was a little one-lane road with a tiny, rusty sign saying "Jones St." If you don't turn, you miss another sign.

Or you are told to turn right after "Gottleib Park". You do it, not noticing that the sign actually says "Gottlieb Park".

You will have all the information you need to follow the correct course, but the rallymaster will do all he can to influence you to go the wrong way. You won't get lost, you will just miss a sign or landmark. The team who misses the fewest will get an award.

Go to http://www.texasscca.org/Series07Generals.pdf and read the default set of General Instructions. Ignore all references to average speed, mileage measurement, and timing. A week or so before that actual event, all preregistered entrants who provide a valid email will be sent the actual set of General Instructions that will be in use. Also, there will be a short rally school at Registration on Saturday morning, so be there promptly at 9am.

Navigators Required!

These type of Rally's are a full day of fun, but that being said it takes teamwork so pick your side kick carefully. Let's just say that in some events a husband and wife team were not speaking to each other by the end of the day, someone is in the "Dog House"
These type of Rally's are suppose to be FUN so for the overly competitive types CHILL and laugh, wave at those that keep circling the block with you as your both lost
Just a hint to NOT help those behind you, never point at the sign, marker or clue on this type of Rally, which I always seem to do

These things are indeed a blast. I haven't done one in quite a few years, but my wife and I are going to try to make this one.

(and yes, they do tend to induce strife into a relationship...but it's all in good fun)

I'm surprised that the rest of the TMS Club hasn't jumped in on this...believe me, it's a lot of fun.

You'll have to let us know how it goes - as much fun as it sounds, I have the directional sense of a rock. I've gotten lost on the way to car shows. With directions. And onstar.

That's why you need a navigator on these things...that way when one of you says "I think we need to turn left here", the other says "no, we should have turned right two blocks ago".

Who's on Second?

A Little joke from one of our runs:

Wife: Honey what town are we in?
Husband: O K
Wife: Well O K, what town is this?
Husband: O K
Wife: Well if you don't know the name just say so?
Husband: It is O K
Wife: There is not a town named O K, you made that up!
Husband: O K what does it say on the water tower?
Wife: Okay, well you learn something new every day, there is a town in Oklahoma named Okay.
