GAUGING INTEREST ONLY: Cloudcroft Meet August 2009 ?
This thread is just to see how much interest, if any, there would be for a meet in the Sacramento Mountains of New Mexico, Cloudcroft, to be specific, in August of 2009. Our usual west Texas meet in April will not work for the wife and me, so we're looking at early August (1st or 2nd weekend).
The temperatures in the area would most likely be mid 40s to high 60s, or, in my opinion, perfect driving weather. Lodging would most likely be in cabins (some log, some regular frame), but there are a couple of nice hotel/lodging houses. ( Burro Street Boardinghouse - Cloudcroft, New Mexico , index , Untitled Document , Welcome to Spruce Cabins - Cloudcroft, NM ) There are a number of nice roads through the Lincoln National Forest in the area, Ruidoso is a short drive away, and there is a great place for dinner (and a show!) on Saturday night. ( Welcome to the Flying J Ranch, Ruidoso, New Mexico! Great family entertainment Monday thru Saturday nights all summer! ) If I were planning it today (and I'm not! ), I'd suggest trying to get to Cloudcroft by about 3-4 pm on Friday, having a short drive that afternoon/evening ending with dinner (before 8 pm when most of the town closes ). Saturday might consist of a morning drive to/through Ruisodo and back, lunch at "The Lodge" in Cloudcroft ( New Mexico Resorts & Mountain Vacations In Cloudcroft - The Lodge Resort ), then a drive on some nice forest roads south of town that afternoon. Dinner/show at the Flying J that night, then everyone head for home on Sunday (after a nice breakfast of fresh baked goods at the Mountain Top Mercantile - Gourmet foods, bakery, fresh produce. Cloudcroft, New Mexico - Home ).Give me some feedback as far as the general idea goes. Thanks!

Weird. I'll be heading down to Cloudcroft tomorrow for some camping. I'll post some pictures of the area when i get back on Sunday. Don't forget, Cloudcroft is ~30 minutes from White Sands National Monument; a great photo op.
