New DFW Road Rally

Thanks to one of your members for entering the Mountain Creek Classic Rally last week.

The next SCCA roadrally will be held in September. The DFW Map Rally, presented by Mapsco, will run on Saturday, September 6th. The flyer is attached.

This rally will be much easier, and much different, from the Classic. You will be given a special map, prepared for us by Mapsco, and some rules. Using those rules, you will determine your own route, and write your own route instructions. Then you will drive that route. There is no complicated "Main Road" rule for this event! Registration is at 9am, and you should be through by 3pm.

This was the most popular event in the 2007 SCCA Regional RoadRally Championship Series. Join us!

Yes, we entered the rally (and got horribly lost). We got confused by one of the (seemly contradictory) instructions.

It turned out that we had gotten it right the first time, but then missed a required turn. After going what we finally assumed was the wrong direction for quite a while, we back-tracked and tried several other (incorrect) paths.

Once we got into the inevitable "heavy discussions" between us, we finally just gave up and went home.

I don't know if we'll make the next one or not...it will depend greatly on what else is going on that weekend.

heavy discussions!

Lost your actually using those words, NO your were taking a detour
Heavy discussions, that sounds way to intense, looks like a new driver or navigator will be necessary for the next run maybe
I have never done a SCCA rally yours must of been a tough one from your post, maybe you need to practice on more fun type ones, but to find those in your area may be a hard find.
Someone posted a neat driving directions type activity, "geocashing". It is a website that people post sites to find using your GPS. At the site is a cash box and your to take something and leave something. I have never done this but sounds like good practice for road rallying.
Found Website for GeoCashing,: Geocaching - The Official Global GPS Cache Hunt Site

I sympathize. I'm supposed to be an expert, and I came in last in class. It was a tough one. Now the September 6 rally is an entirely different beast: you are guaranteed not to get lost. You may not go the correct way to get a perfect score, but you won't get lost. That's because you will have a map, with the start, end, and checkpoint locations all known to you. There is still a challenge, but it's much less stressful. Come give us another try!
