Phoenix South Mountain Ride and Car Show - September 9th

On Saturday, September 9th, several Skys and Solstices from the Phoenix Sky and Solstice club will be riding up the curves around South Mountain Park (the largest city park in the world), ending up at Scottsdale Pavilions Car Show at 5:00PM (the oldest continuously running car show in the world).

For more information, visit the Sky-Sol club website at:
http://www.sky-sol.com/index.php?opt...task=view&id=4

Everyone is welcome either on the ride or at the car show, which is free to either attend or show. We are still planning the ride, but will probably start with a late lunch at some cafe near South Mountain.

We are still discussing the ride, but here a couple of photos from up on South Mountain to show what we would be looking at. In the first one, I photoshop'd the speed limit sign.

I wanted to give everyone a heads up on the details of our plans for this Saturday.

So far, we have SEVEN cars that have told me that they will DEFINITELY be there for the South Mountain Ride in the morning (including all four of the newly elected board members of the club), and a DOZEN that are planning on meeting at Pavilions. Until now, the details have been kind of sketchy, but we have finally firmed things up. By making this a “quick ride” in the morning hours, we hope it will work out for more folks.

At 9:00AM, we will be gathering for a short ride up South Mountain park. The road to the top is only seven miles, from which you will see spectacular views of the entire valley, and then we continue on up to the TV towers, where you can see the East Valley and South from mountain. We will be doing this rain or shine, because if it rains, it will probably be brief.

9:00 AM - South Mountain Run

We will gather at 9:00AM at the Visitor’s center at South Mountain park (http://phoenix.gov/PARKS/smeec.html). The visit center is past the entrance gates on the left and opens at 8:00AM, so if you get there early, you can look around. If you get there late and we are gone, just head up the mountain. There is only one road open in the park right now, so you will definitely bump into us. Here is a google map to the visitor’s center: http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en...8&om=1&iwloc=A

11:00 AM - Los Dos Molinos for Lunch

If you can’t make it at 9:00AM, of if you don’t want to or can’t participate in the drive, please try to join us at 11:00AM for an early lunch at Los Dos Molinos restaurant near the entrance to South Mountain park. For those who have never been, this is probably the most famous Mexican restaurant in Phoenix, built on the hacienda of Tom Mix (the Hollywood cowboy). Again, here is a google map: http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en...9&om=1&iwloc=A

4:30 PM – Scottsdale Pavilions Car Show

Last month we had 14 cars at the show, which is the world’s oldest continuously running car show, on Indian Bend near the 101 freeway (in front of Home Depot). We will probably be hanging around at the car show for a couple of hours, or until we get hungry and get our large group photo, like this one from last month: http://www.sky-sol.com/index.php?opt...=1&key=8&hit=1. For those who have never been before, the Scottsdale Pavilions Car Show is a very relaxed come-and-go-as-you-please affair, no cost to participate, very low key. Our objective is to get 20 cars there, and then they will reserve a row for us so we don’t have to come in so early to save spots. Here is a google map to Pavilions: http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en...8&om=1&iwloc=A

Afterparty @ Zipps

No time on this yet, but if you show up at Pavilions and you can’t find any Solstices or Skys, then we have moved the party over to a dinner gathering. There are TWO Zipps locations in Scottsdale, one close to Old Town and one at the NW corner of Hayden and Via de Ventura, which is the one we will be gathering at. Here is a google map: http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en...9&om=1&iwloc=A

Oh, and one more thing. Don’t forget out dinner gathering on September 15th at Ocotillo Resort.

The weather Saturday should be pretty good, 80 degrees in the morning, up to 93 for the high. There is a 30% chance of rain during the afternoon, but if that happens it will probably be between our morning and evening events.
