Calgary Meet, July 2007

So it's official. Everyone who can come to Alberta please save the date!

July 14, 2007 is the official date for welcoming Teri to Canada for her book. We will be meeting in Calgary. I am picking such a summer date because by then the city is guarenteed to have the roads cleaned up, cause wow the potholes are bad. More details to come as time goes on, but for now this is the date. Just as a note, it could change, but a weekend in July should be set. We outta be doing a nice drive to Banff, since it is about 1 hour from Calgary, maybe 1.5 tops. And it's a nice drive into the mountains.

CdnSkyGuy is coming over from Saskatchewan for it, so all of you other Canadian Sky's don't be afraid to make the drive!

So I want to start making a tentative list of those who can make it.

Anyone friendly with a hotel manager? Maybe we can get a good deal. Are we gonna head to Banff early and do Lunch then take pics all afternoon...back to Calgary and have a nice dinner, drinks (just 1 or 2) and night cruise?

I am going to try and bring McRyde from Regina as well.

Pretty much what I was thinking exactly. I don't live in Calgary, so I'm going to befriend a Calgary guy to help me out, find some nice eateries.

As for a hotel rate, every year my band stays at the local holiday in, so I may be able to get us a decent rate. But that's only if we have a decent size room booking (say about 10). But it looks like most of the Sky's coming may live in Calgary. So we will see how things play out.

You may want to reconsider the date of the event. It's Calgary Stampede from July 6-15 so you won't get a hotel within a hundred km of town and absolutely no deals in that period.

I am new to town and don't have any connections here, so sorry on not being able to track down hotels, etc.

A suggestion to take a loop down to Longview, over to Kananaskis then to Banff for the rally portion of the event. It has to be the nicest drive in the area.

Definitely looking forward to seeing some kappa cars at the event.

Imagine 20 Kappa Cars slowly cruising by the nightblub "Cowboys" during Stampede!!! It is such a shame that we will only have room for 1 lady each

Oh wow thanks Rocky Mtn. I might have to look at changing it to the 21st? That way I could attend a wedding on the 14th also.

So unless you all want to party at the stampede and fight with hotels, would you be willing to do it on July 21?

Ninja Edit: By all means though, I have no problems doing it over the Stampede. It only effects us out of town guys, and I would just book my hotel room sometime this next month so I knew I would have a spot(and of course I would let you all know which hotel I plan on using, and the room rate, etc). And it looks like CdnSkyGuy wants to party it up with the Stampede folk'll

Well then SkyGuy we will leave it.

But, like all things, theres now a catch to my involvement.

My Pa has gotten a temporary job over in the U.K. for about 2 months, so the entire family is going with him, sort of as a vacation. So I should still be able to have an internet connection where ever we are staying, so I'll still be posting, I just won't be in the same country any more.

The only catch is, they told him that he could have to stay for up to six months. They said that was highly unlikely, but it was a possibility. So we will just have to see where I am come July.

I'll keep organizing this meet as best I can though, seeing as it shouldnt matter where I'm posting from.

My only recommendation is, with us going over the Stampede weekend, I recommend booking your hotels ASAP. I will talk to my mom tonight and ask her which hotel it was her and dad stayed in last time, with underground secure parking (seeing as I doubt you guys wants to leave your Kappa's parked in an outdoor lot over night with the Stampede crowd around, or atleast I know I sure don't!)

Hmm... So did I miss the meet? On the Solstice Forum, there has been no mention of getting together on any date other than July 14th. I was still hoping for that. But it's deathly silent over there under this topic.

Any ideas on a date? Or is it too late?
