Dealer's strange way of selling Red Line

I put my name on a list at a local dealer a while back and got a call from them out of the blue today. To get on their list all you needed was a phone number. They didn't ask for a deposit or even what colour you wanted. Needless to say I had no intention of following through with them.

The message was basically, "you gave us your name for a Red Line and we now have one in so we're calling everyone on the list. First one in gets it." No other information i.e. colour, wheels, options, etc. My guess is that it's Silver Pearl and loaded with every concievable option. They know that someone is going to buy it.

So what was my reaction? "Press 7 to delete this message." I know what I want and when I want it.

Stampede Call

I have been through this myself. A dealer calls you and tells you it is first come, first served. To me, this is very unprofessional. I'm not certain I have the answer as to what is the best way to handle this situation but there has to be a better way. I am told that Skys are less plentiful in Canada so I guess they figure you will take what you can get which for the most part is ridiculous.

Some of the Saturn dealers are going to regret their actions with the way they have treated potential customers. There are plenty of good dealers though.

Good point. A foot race for a Sky? And it's not free? Pass. Last I heard Saturn dealers sell other cars too. Happy Sky customers buy Auras and other Saturn products too. Seems to be a matter of longer term vision.

Good move CenterIce!!!

Cincinnati Dealers

All five Saturn dealers are very fair and professional. You put down a $500 deposit on the exact car you want, the car is orderded in sequence and you get yours in the order placed for MSRP, no add ons. The exception would be RL alolocations. I ordered my base from one dealer and my Redline from another. First dealer was the largest volume dealer, and the RL came from the dealer nearest me.

Good move CenterIce!!!

It's funny you say that. I was just thinking today that my fiancee is going to need a new car in about a year or so. I immediately thought about getting a Saturn (even though I would have NEVER thought about that before getting my SKY). Of course, my dealer experience was fantastic. Some of these dealers really should be thinking long-term.....
