NCRRO 1st Meet of 2008 in Ottawa on May 18 with friends from SSOOO

Well I guess that it’s time to start planning for the first cruise of 2008 for National Capital Region Roadster Owners. So mark your calendars, because on the Victoria Day long weekend, we will be hosting a cruise on Sunday, May 18. Our colleagues from the Solstice/Sky Owner of Ontario (SSOOO) we will be arriving in Ottawa the day before…perhaps a social event that evening.

I would invite any and all Sky & Solstice Owners from the region (or elsewhere) that wish to join in on the activities to please let us know your interest…more details will be posted closer to the actual event…once the snow melts, we can have a better idea of the meeting place (most likely in Kanata) and of an interesting scenic route.

If you are coming from out-of-town and wish to stay a night (or two), SSOOO has made arrangement for a group rate at Country Inn and Suites in Kanata. See the attached post for details?

Fortunately or unfortunately….depending on your views, the intent with the NCRRO was to be a very informal club , but I have updated the site with the message below, so we can create a email distribution list to inform members about upcoming events.

Mike and I will be "loading" (he, he, he) up Skylish on May 10, 2008, to make our trek from Mesa, Arizona to Ottawa. We decided to drive our SKY rather than fly. We can't live without it for a month in Ottawa. We hope we can conect with you while we are there. We're planning to join the ride when more details about time, location, etc. is posted. We are counting the days and can't wait for the adventure to begin. See you all in May!

Test drove the proposed route today for “The Drive” on Sunday, May18…all went well. So, here goes….

The meet and greet the morning of the drive (May 18) will start at 9:30 am at 200-2500 Palladium Drive in front of Turpin’s Pontiac and Saturn dealerships (just down the street from the Country Inn and Suites & just off the Palladium Drive exit from the 417). We are planning on leaving around 10:30…looks like there will be two groups so we’ll need to have leaders and sweepers (certainly Lynn and I will lead one group). There will be detailed maps available and we have 2 sets of radios, but another set as a spare would be welcome.

We are heading for Calabogie which is about 1.5 hr drive on secondary roads. We have made reservations for 30 at the Calabogie Peaks Resort for a buffet brunch ($16.95 pp). After we’ve eaten, we are heading off to Smith Falls for a stop at the Hershey Chocolate Factory…again about an hour and half drive. Once we have filled up on sweets (optional), we’ll head back to Ottawa and Lynn & I would like to invite everyone back to our place for cold beer, wine and BBQ. As well, we have a hot tub in the backyard, so should you want to relax….just bring your swimming attire and feel free to jump in.

I got stopped last year on our way to the GTA for SSOOO drive to the falls...young officer said "he agree that a plate would ruin the look of the car, so no warning or ticket (so far)...but did get pulled over in my Subura and got a warning for having the registation sticker in the wrong place (go figure)....so good luck!

Reservations have been made for Saturday evening's social at O'Connors Irish Pub @ 6:30 pm in the at Kanata Centrum just behind the AMC 24 Theatres. It's just across the highway from the Country Inn & Suites....and the beers is cold!

I would like to thank those from SSOOO for driving (in the rain) from the GTA to Ottawa as well as thank the members from NCRRO (existing and new!!!) & guesses from Phoenix (Forever Young) for supporting this joint drive….I may be bias, but I have deemed it a great success! Perhaps a new annual tradition has been born???

Thanks to Bailey and Lynne for organizing such a great drive. What a great group of participants and all so enthousiastic about their cars! We cant wait for the next outing.
