SSOOO idea for 2008

This is a copy of what I have posted on the Solstice Forum at

http://www.solsticeforum.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=39798

OK, as the title states, I have an idea for a SSOOO run sometime in 2008.

I am putting this out now as it would probably take a little planning.

Would people be interested in a run from the Toronto area to Ottawa, and stay a couple of nights there? (Long weekend?)

An initial ideal could follow this basic layout.

1)Meet up on a Saturday morning and spend the day driving to Ottawa. There are plenty of scenic routes on the way ie Kingston to Brockville along Hwy2 and the 1000 Islands Parkway.

2)Arrive in Ottawa sometime in the late afternoon/evening and stay overnight.

3) Sunday meet up with the NCR solstice club and have a drive somewhere. Ottawa people would know good routes.

4) Stay in Ottawa again overnight.

5) Monday drive back home again.

Any thoughts/suggestions on this?

Maybe the "Canada Day" long weekend?

Although I cannot speak for the others in the NCR, I think that your idea sound great and I would be prepared to coordinate something on this end as I'm quite certain our gang would be very interested in doing something like that.

As well, we have talked about doing something similar. There seems to be interest in coming down and joining SOOO for a drive to the Falls. We quite enjoyed that trip ourselves...maybe adding a tour of a Winery just 'cause they're there !

Let's see what other's think?

OK, there seems some interest. So what dates would people be interested in?

The 2 likeliest I think would be Victoria Day weekend (24/25/26th May) or Canada Day weekend (01 July) which would actually be 28/29/30th June?

Reply with your preferences and which one you can and can't attend. Please put down other long weekend dates you think would be appropriate.

Victoria Day - 2nd choice - Can attend - 2 people
Canada Day - 1st choice - Can attend - 2 people

Because it is not until next year, I guess this can run for several weeks to let as many people reply as possible.

Any ideas for weekend events are more than welcome, this includes possible hotel locations etc. ( the only hotel I have used in Ottawa is a Ramada on Cooper St)

This is double posted on the Sol forum to get as much interest as possible.

Sound like a great idea, here's my preference:

Victoria Day - 2nd choice - Can attend - 2 people
Canada Day - 1st choice - Can attend - 2 people

I imaging hotel bookings could be a problem on the Canada Day weekend, so guess we need to plan well ahead. Thanks for organizing the event.

Laura and I might be good for Canada Day! We usually make a trip to Ottawa every summer. We didn't get to show off Pepper this summer (to busy).

We still also want to make a trip to the Tail of the Dragon this coming summer as well. Thought we might hit the Woodward Dream Cruise first and then do the TotD.

any more people with ideas/preferences?

I am starting to lean towards the May 24 weekend, as the hotels will likely be cheaper and more availability

OK, more input needed

It looks like the May 24 weekend is the best choice.

I am looking into hotel group rates, they start at about $100 per room for 2 per night (No guarantee of quality). The closer to downtown or the airport you get, the more they cost. Another option is on the outskirts i.e Kanata, which is about 22km from downtown Ottawa.

We may be limited of course on availability in downtown.

More opinions please (How close to downtown/price etc)

This is the first time I have tried to organize something like this, so I am a little worried about screwing things up
