Building my own braces toss me a bone

Hey folks i was lookink at puting some braces on my r/l being a jeep guy at heart i like to build my own stuff want to fab my own back bone was wondering if any one had a stock take off laying in a pile some where i could barrow for an outline so i dont have to take mine off till its done. At work i have access to alot of fab equipment and an endless supply of scrap steel my only limit is time to use it even have a masive powder coating system im in quincy Illinois willing to come and pick it up and return it anywhere close btw im not looking to sell anything or make a cheap ebay product just take a little pride in saying i built it feels better than i bought it anyway thanks for any help you give in advance

Anyone off the top of their head know the thickness of the different modles ddm sells amd the the thickness of the stock one

Yeap, I happen to know those

We sell a 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" version of the backbone. The stock piece is a .060" stamped steel piece.

I can appreciate your enthusiasm, but I would just buy the ones DDM has. They are awesome and unless you have a waterjet and a LOT of free material, his braces are the way to go. Plus all the hardware comes with the braces if necessary. Backbone and probeam are the BEST upgrades you can do to a kappa! Its proven and really tightens up the car.

I am going to say that you are probably capable of making a brace, but he has years of testing to show that his are awesome. I personally went with the 1/2" Backbone and the probeam kit and loved it. If I ever get another kappa, that is the first thing going on the car.

And yes all the ddm stuff looks realy nice and good prices to i just like building stuff just wish i could find a nice chunk of aluminum instead of steel to keep the weight down and yes most any size and thickness steel i can get free as long as the company is gonna toss it and im not gonna make money with it they give it away alot of guys out here build derby cars so they get all kinds of free materials

Made my own and documented it here. Simple to do but I made mine when DDM's prices were higher for that piece. Although I can admire the fact that you want to do it yourself, it's really not worth it anymore to do so.

DIY: Make your own tunnel brace

Aluminum is really the way to go for this. Steel will add weight but I suppose it'll lower the center of gravity as well...

Thanks guys that info on the aluminum is help full n the template will come in very handy did some lookn around at work cant find any aluminum let alone hardened stuff started gathering pieces for a front brace today continue the hunt for aluminum stock tomorrow
