Need rear bulkhead panel w/speaker grille
Does anyone know where I might be able to find one? The cost new from the dealer is 311.75 which is a bit more than I want to spend. I have a non-monsoon car and want to put the monsoon sub in it. The standard bulkhead panel has a map pocket that's in the way so I'd like the panel that comes with the speaker grille instead.
I'm thinking a used one from a totaled car or something like that may be my best option. Only thing is, totaled Skys are not easy to find, much less one that has the monsoon system. Anyone have any ideas? |

I think my best option is to get one of the panels that already comes with the speaker grille from the factory. |

Wow. I am in the same boat. I got the base radio thinking I was saving $600 since I was upgrading anyway. Next I am told I need the sub enclosure. No problem. $120.... Still saving $480. Then I figure out that the base head unit is gimped compared to the Monsoon head unit. This means no VSS (Variable speed sound) and a few other features. I go for the Pioneer D3 instead of just cleansweaping the stock radio. Not my prefered choice. Now I find out that I need a new panel or I must mod the stock one for the sub. More money to do that at the shop. I sure haven't saved $600 now. I should have got the Monsoon. Sigh.......

well, if I had waited another 6 or 8 months until they sky I ordered came in, I would have gotten the monsoon but since I snagged one right away I ended up without it. No big deal since I tend to go aftermarket with my stereo stuff anyway, but it would be nice to be able to get the bulkhead panel so I dont' have to trim mine. Worst case scenario I guess is I trim it and when I decide to sell or trade the car, then I spend the 300 bucks to replace the panel. Might actually work out better like that because I won't have to figure out where to store the other panel in the meantime. I went by the stereo shop today and they said they could trim it and make it look fairly decent by putting some speaker grille cloth material over the sub so it looks pretty natural. Plus, it's behind the seat anyway so it'll be out of sight 99.9% of the time. Really shouldn't be a problem. |

Oh
Ok, when the time comes to replace the panel. And lets assume you were selling the car. You spend $300 to replace the panel. How much additional value will you really have by making it stock again? I don't think much. Do you really think that replacing it makes that much of a difference? What about the time and effort? I think not. I don't think the difference is gonna be thousands of dollars. And when you resell or trade its all negotiable. In most cases what control on price do we have anyway. I say cut away!
Oh, but to each its own.db |
