Is this something you really need to take off everytime you put the top up, or can it be left on?

To get right to the point, no you physically do not need to remove it to put the top up, however we do not recomend driving the car with the shield in place and the top up. This is for 2 reasons. The first being that it will rub against the defroster lines causeing them to wear. The second being it will double the compression on the trunk lid seal which may lead to premature wear. Once you finish the initial install however, it literally takes seconds to remove and install, and no tools are required. You will spend more time getting out of your car to put the top up then you will removing the Sky Shield.

Cheers,

Brian
