I'm sad to see you selling your car, but if it helps you move away from that fence, I'm all for it! Good luck!

Sorry guys, cancel last.

I have decided that I like my life and my disposable income. Although the condo is super nice I do not want to take out a half million dollar mortgage. We will stay put for a few more years or get a cheaper place. I have about $100,000 equity right now and that is nice...would hate to give up my fun just to have a huge house.

I am keeping my gear and getting it all put on this weekend. Will have a Hahn kit update for you guys tuesday.

hahaha! What a cruel thing to do to these guys. They were all hoping to score some cheap gear from a guy who's a little wishy-washy over his life! I think you made the right choice though! With a car like that, girls would live with you in a shoebox if need be!

So I take it the move to Vancouver is out???

I'm on the other side of the fence (not that I'm excited about a half million dollar mortgage). Of course, Vancouver housing prices are driven by speculation and rich Asian immigrants. As an extreme example, I did a search on MLS for a house in the downtown eastside (where the hookers and homeless druggies wander) and found this "beauty" for $600K CAD.

Thankfully, here's an example of what the same price buys you out in the 'burbs where I live:

Another problem is that they've made it way too easy to get a mortgage with $0 down and 40-year amortization. The slightest hike in interest rates (which are still going up) will leave a lot of people unable to keep up.

For me, the upside is that a house appreciates whereas a car depreciates immediately. as a concrete example, my current house has gone up in value close to $100K in just three years. Also, I want my next move to be long-term (i.e. 10+ years).

But having said all that, if you are happy with your decision then it's obviously the right one. (Actually, if your wife's happy, then it's the right one!)
