I believe the Kappabrella was a cover for our cars to cover up the interior while the top was down...but I could be wrong.

Robo, I'll yield to your idea. But from my previous MG world, we called that a tonneau cover.

I frankly thought at first it was some kind of umbrella?? And maybe we don't know for sure yet.

Both are correct. the kappabrella attaches under the wiper blades and goes over the windshield under the mirrors and then connects in the trunk and the tonneau covers just the inside where the driver and passenger sit, attached with snaps.

Looks like it would be faster and easier to just put the top up and down than to put the KappaBrella on and off.

I assume the point of this, or putting your top up is threat of rain? Or do people feel their car is more secure with the top up or other things covering it?

If just putting the top up while parked do you need to secure the buttresses? Clearly if your putting that kappbrella on looks are not your concern, if you just pop trunk and lift and latch top you could save some hassle of dealing with the buttresses.

remember this from a guy who doesn't use his as a daily driver so I dont put the top up much except when it gets stored for the winter. Trying to understand when you would use this kappabrella thing

I thought the point of the Kapprabrella was to protect the interior from sun & dust. While the vert top may do the same thing, the Kapprabrella prevents the sun rays from coming through the windshield and side windows. It's basically another option for anal attentive people who worry about having to park their pride & joy in direct sunlight while at work, plus it gives your fellow office workers something else to laff about behind your back. Yeah, I have one.

I was figuring it would be a better alternative to simply leaving the top down at work all day with the sun beating in and potential bird bombings.

From the odd issues I have heard with the mechanics of the top wearing I thought it better than putting it up and down multiple times per day.

I bought mine to protect the top from sun by modifying it so it would go on with the top UP. The mod will be easy (Just a large "dart" in the sides) and I think it will work fine for that use.

But putting it on while stopping to shop while exploring the countryside with the top down does not make any sense since putting the top up is so easy, even securing the buttresses. Even alone, putting the top up is not as much trouble as putting on the "kappabrella"

It is NOT waterproof so wont protect against a real rain.
