16/17" Wheels that fit/don't fit.

16x7 Caddilac catera wheels DONT clear the brake caliper on the inside rim. Was hoping I'd get lucky.

Anyone else know of any 16/17" wheels that they can comfirm for sure fit the factory rear brakes? Need something to mount some drag slicks on

Look under the winter package for the solstice, im using 17" rims for snow. Those ones were tested by one of the people that worked there.

I just went through the same thing. They swore If we did an alignment they would fit, but everyone that saw the situation didn't think it would buy enough clearance. They did take the wheels back NP. J

They are simple cheapies from discounttire.com for like 70 bucks each. I read it on a snow tire post a month or so ago. Drop coop a PM and he'll give you the details.

What about getting the 16" steelies and getting them made wider?
Locally, I've found a shop that will do it for about $100/rim.

Tire rack had a closeout on sport edition CD wheels (17x7.5) for under $80 a piece so I picked up two of those and some 225/45/17 BFG drag radials to go on them. Smaller tire diameter should place the car in a more favorable rollout zone and crossing the traps in a better part of fourth gear then with the stock 28" meats. Gonna see 12s by summer, hopefully 11s by end of season with a big turbo or bust!

I know those tires are stickier and everything, but wouldn't you want a wider tire? I really like the idea of the 255/50R16. I thought that might be the best tire size for a drag radial on our cars.

I might go that route in the future. It would be about $100 more expensive at this point in time, and that's a big tire for a 16x7. The MT 255/50s run big anyway, they're big on a 16x8 wheel (had several sets on my camaro). Not sure if the huge sidewall would cause issues or not on a 16x7. If I cant get the traction I'm looking for on these I'll move down to the 16x7s and 255/50s. I'm just looking for consistant 1.7-1.8s though, not trying to break anything Worst case I can sell these wheels and drags to one of the ion/cobalt ss guys. It's their factory size.

I already have a set of the 16" steelies so I'm looking into getting them widened to fit drag radials. I'm hoping that I can make them wider for summer, but still have them narrow enough for my winter tires. Part of the reason I like the 16" wheels is the 255's have a height of 26.1" and the stock tires are 26.6". So, they're pretty close to the stock tire size. I'd really like drag radials so I can do all my tire changes at home. I don't have a clue how I'd get tires and a jack to the track in the Sky...

I was actually hoping to get my 60' closer to 1.7 with the occaisional 1.6. I have an automatic Redline and I've never drag raced an auto before. I guess we'll see this summer.

We use a V70R to carry the AX wheels. I have seen S2000s with tireracks and a 300Z with a trailer. -J
