That looks pretty sweet, I have only done a few autocross events so i dont know much about it, but it seems as if there isnt many people in your event the events out here are ~20 or so in just the A stock class. Was this a poor showing for some reason, or is this typical? I have to say i liked the white outline of the course.
Did they make you take your CAI off for the event, I know my region wont allow a CAI in a Stock class, but i thought this was nation wide. BTW, when i did my couple events, i was well off the times of the other A stock cars. The last event i did, the leaders were all in the ~60 second range, I was in the ~70 second range. It seemed as if there was two groups of drivers, those who were really into it, then those who just do it here and there. But overall, i have to agree with you, it was incredably fun. |

Edited to add: the white outline was a nice touch. The hosting club (Yellowstone SCCA, Billings, Montana) had an ATV with two outrigger booms dragging pieces of sheetrock. Ray

What would happen...would I not be allowed in at all? I can't re-install the stock airbox since it has been long tossed. If they move me to a different class that would be fine since I'm not in it for the numbers. Ray

Very good question. If you can preorder and have installed the GMPP CAI before you even pick up and finalize purchase, how is this not "stock"? Ray

Welcome & CAI proper class
WELCOME to the fun world of autocross. I just started this year and love it. Have race tires and rims ariving this week. My street tires are chewed up and almost bald. Will get them replaced in a couple months also. I love "flicking" the Sky around in tight turns. It's a WILD 30-40 second ride, that's for sure.
CLASS: since I'm a 2.4L sky I was in C-Stock (rather then the redline A-Stock) but per the director of car class at SCCA National with my CAI (Fujita cold air intake) I now must run in the CSP (C stock Street Prepared). That puts me with the serious drivers and I'll not be able to compete with their times, but I did the CAI and the ECM for street performance and LOVE it. Too bad it kills me on the track. If you don't have a CAI but get a ECM upgrade, it will still put your stock Sky in the Street Prepared class.

The instant you might effect the seasonal outcome, that would change. There is no doubt if you finsihed ahead of someone who was in it for the season and he saw your out-of-class part, he would bring it to an official's attention. Since you are just having fun, I would think you will be fine. -J

Well now, here's a new question: If the Fujita moves me into a new class, what else am I allowed to do to the car to run in this new class? The SCCA site was kind of vague and they mentioned new engines and bodywork, so any help would be appreciated. I can't believe that a CAI alone puts you into a class that allows different engines, nitrous and oversize non-DOT tires. Thanks, Ray

Your new class would be A-Street Prepared (ASP). In a nutshell, any size wheels, any DOT tires that fit on those wheels, any springs, any shocks, unlimited boost, different seats, intake up to the turbo inlet, exhaust after the head (but you can't move the turbo), no cats, any diff, and a bunch of other things that might help a little. You don't want to be in that class unless you know what you are doing... It's not that the CAI alone puts you there, it's that it's not allowed in the class you are running. It's like being 1# over the weight limit in a wrestling class - you get bumped up where you can weigh 20# more. You are 1 mod over the limit for stock class, now you will be competing against people who (may) have done the other 20. |

Before we do anything we do to the car we consult the rules first. You don’t want to get moved out of a class because you put in a pedal kit. –J

Yes. The ONLY part of the intake system of ANY car in SCCA stock classes that can be changed is the air FILTER. End of list on the intake.
REAL WORLD, in local events unless you start winning, nobody will say anything.
