Autocross Clinic

Anyone interested in doing a autocross Clinic. A few friends of mine and I are doing one on Friday April 18th at FedEx field in Landover,MD (right outside DC). Its a full day clinic for both experienced people and first timers. There will be at least two instructors there, and the ability to drive basically as much as you can. I only need a couple more to get up to 12 people which will make the cost $200 for the entire day. Which in a per run basis is about as cheap as it gets.

Count me in.

I take it we drive our own cars.

Not having done this before, what are the chances I'll need a brake job and new tires at end of day?

Yes, you drive your own cars.

You will not need a new brake job. New tires - you might see some accelerated wear on the outside edges if you don't have enough camber and tire pressure.

I take it this is through the SCCA and Brian G.? Brian is a great guy.

Yep, its through Brian.

I did one once before, and didnt notice any real damage to the car other than yea, the tires did take a little bit of a beating. But truthfuly it wasnt as bad as i thought. When I was done i had absolutly no traction, and i saw some pretty big grooves in the tires, but after i drove home, and a week or two later I rotated the tires, and I didnt see any too out of the ordinary wear. Brian is pretty knowlegable and was able to help us put the correct pressure in our tires, i think that is what saved them.

This is stock vehicle. Camber is whatever the factory set. Should this be tweaked before the event?

Oh, and one more thing....mine is an automatic...not manual. I would think the instruction regime is a bit (or a lot) different when it comes to auto vs manual.

Not that different from auto to manual, as in autocross i was jsut getting it to 2nd gear as quickly as possible, then it never came out of 2nd. Others that went last time we did it had automatics, and they just put it in 2nd gear, and didnt take it out, so there wasnt much of a learning difference. But performance, yes, the response time with a manual is much better as you dont get that lag.
