Autocross Race Numbers
I dont know if anyone else has had this problem, but the autocross event people are getting mad at me for using masking tape, so I have decided to get magnetic numbers but I was looking for suggestions. I have added what I was thinking of doing as far as design. Any suggestions?

I use these:
Solotime Autocross-Track Day-Race Car 8" Magnetic or Reusable Number Package I used to like the meatball idea but I started running with a few different groups and each had their own numbering scheme. BTW, I see you are in Frederick, MD. I'm in Philly but run all over the NE, so we might bump into each other. Last edited by RobL : 04-29-2008 at 11:34 AM. |

I'm not a fan of the thin magnetic stuff that AC Moore sells and I suspect that it's the same type that office depot sells. After a season of use, it tends to curl up at the edges and not stick as well (I still have some old numbers around and I can take pictures to show what I'm talking about).

here what my number sheet looks like; I measured the sheet it's 9x12" and .8mm thick. I keep the 2 sheets back to back in a freezer bag.

I get magnetic sheets from local sign shop and cut them out by hand. If you want any other color than white, the sign shop can put any color vinyl over the sheets that you may want. They will even cut them out to your font for a fee.

Man that car looks sweet all decked out. I don't think we have much of that here in Fl., but I'll start keeping my eyes and ears open.

I just had a local printing shop get some card stock white paper and run it through their laminator machine. I got 11x17 size.
once the white 11x17 is laminated i then write on it with the widest/fattest dry-erase markers i can find. I just use blue painters tape to tape the laminated sheet to my doors. -j |

I bought the 12" x 24" magnetic sheets from Michael's (craft store) and spray painted it dayglow yellow and then remasked it and painted it gloss black to match my car. They stay on the car really well at speed and to prevent the edges from getting damaged I roll them up together so that the sheets curl towards the car when unrolled. I store/transport them in a large sturdy poster tube (the kind you can buy at the post office) that I cut to 13" in length, which fits nicely in my autocross gym bag
