Autocross @ San Joaquin County Fairgrounds [SCCA Solo 2] (Stockton, CA) Aug. 9 & 10

Interested in racing your Solstice or Sky without worrying about roll bars/cages or damaging your car?

I am working with the Sacramento Region SCCA to get a group discount for Solstice/Sky owners for one or both of these events. If you are interested, please let me know so I can add you to the list. Include your name, car, class (if known), which event(s) you would like to attend (Round 5 or 6 or both), and if you are interested in lodging in the area. If you need help figuring out what class you should be in, please feel free to ask and I’ll do what I can to help. If enough people are interested in lodging in the area, I will try to arrange for group discounts on hotel rooms as well, and we might be able to organize a group dinner and/or other evening event.

This event is NOT limited to Solstice/Sky owners. If you would like to participate but don't own a Solstice/Sky, please join us!

As long as the moderators will allow it, this will be listed in both the Pacific and Autocross Forums on SolsticeForum.com and SkyRoadster.com. The master list will be maintained in the Pacific Forum on SolsticeForum.com.

For event details:

Sacramento Cup Round 7 (Saturday, August 9, 2008):
Cup1

Sacramento Cup Round 8 (Sunday, August 10, 2008):
Cup1

Most people will probably run in either Street Tire, A-Stock, or C-stock classes (I compete in the Street Tire class).
On Saturday, Street Tire is in the morning run groups, you should arrive by 7am, A and C Stock are in the afternoon run groups, you must register by 10:30am.
On Sunday, Street Tire, A and C Stock are all in the morning run groups, you should arrive by 7am.

*Helmets are required, loaners are available at no charge.
*If you are not a SCCA member, a weekend membership can be purchased at the event for $15. The membership is good for the entire weekend and can be used as a $15 credit toward purchasing a full SCCA membership at a later date. Regular memberships are also available on site.
*Only cash payments are accepted on site.

What is an Autocross event?
Autocross/Solo II events are low to medium speed auto racing events; they are often run on parking lots and airport runways, although street events and events at Go Kart tracks sometimes take place. Generally a course will be defined using traffic cones. One driver at a time negotiates a course laid out with the cones, or pylons, testing their skill against the clock. Time penalties are charged for disturbing cones. In most regions, the penalty is 2 seconds per cone, although in some places it may be 1 second.

There is an upper speed guideline for Solo II which is intended to keep speeds in a domain that most drivers might have encountered on the streets and highways; the fastest cars at a Solo II should not get much over 70mph.

Generally, each driver takes three or four runs at an event. A driver is awarded the best time of all runs taken.

I am also trying to organize an Introduction to Autocross Day / Autocross School for Kappa owners. It would be a full day of Autocross instruction and course time for Solstice/Sky owners. The location would most likely be the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds in Stockton, CA. The date and cost are TBD, probably a weekend in July or August (will try to not conflict with any WCKCC events) and will try to keep the costs low (hopefully under $50), though this may depend on the number of entrants. If you think you might be interested, please let me know.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Hope to see you at the track!
