Redline vs Z28

So my boyfriend and I raced at the dragstrip.......

.........but since I can't post about a kill story......I can't say who won. But I would like to discuss some points others made in my naughty street racing binge...

The Saturn and Z28 are actually tied for fuel economy.....both at ~23 mpg. Remember, that Z28 may have a big ol V8......but it also has a .50 6th gear and a 3.42 FDR.

The Z28 has a CAI, MAF, TB, and cat-back exhaust (the TB and MAF are pry worthless).....it also has a set of BLACK 17x9.5 ZR1 wheels with 275/40/17 Falken Azenis RT-615 tires.

Correct me if I am wrong....You can post kill stories if you raced it at the drag strip. Are you just trying to be nice to your boyfriend?

What track? What's the length?

Street racing is prohibited and considered a kill story. Track info is very much welcomed. Claiming track if not, not so much. Just checking...

yep, the saturn, imo, gets surprisingly low gas mileage. for a 2 liter engine to get the same mileage as a V8 is not too good. I get about 22 mpg avg.

sounds like the 1/8th mile.

And if so....Redlines are capable of pulling high 8's, so you should've won. Hell, even my crappy driving was a 9.0 on the 1/8th.

I'm a member of at least 20 other random message boards and NONE of the moderators are near the Nazi you are, cerberus.

There was no 'legal' drag race....I live in Iowa, and it just snowed.....the track would of been Eddyville a local 1/8th mile track, as a low ot mid 9 second pass would only make sense. I mainly wanted to contuine the discussion. To all out ban posting about street racing is being a bit hypocritic...don't you think? EVERY person has street raced in one form or another. What is the harm in simply discussing a race?

A Sky Redline won't beat a LT1 Z28. The Z28 makes a bunch more power (260 hp vs 285 hp)......and WAAYYY more torque. The Saturn does have a couple hundred pounds on the Camaro...but its not enough to match a LT1 Z28....although its not far behind.

I'm not claiming that the Redline is quicker. I'm saying the low 9 second pass wasn't it's true potential....the z28 will kill in the quarter mile because of its torque, but 1/8 mile i wouldn't be surprised to have the Redline win because of its weight advantage. They both have very similar 0-60 times of 5.0 sec.

I don't make the rules. Just try to keep em from getting trampled on. Your post caught my eye as it just plain doesnt add up, including the numbers between your two threads. So, as I see it, rules on other boards are just that. Yet continuing to post kill stories in the legitimate racing discussion forum takes away from the hard facts many of us are looking for and just becomes another silly potentially life threatening kid run. Rather than further an old-fart mentality and delve into "what's the harm in that", at the present time, kill stories are prohibited by skyroadster.com. Simple as that.

This is the b/f....

Only the Camaro has been to the drag strip (as we've had the Saturn for 6 days, and its November).....and it was an 1/8, I managed to run a 9.1 (I forget the trap speed) on bald tires...haven't been on the new kicks yet (only one month old)......but if you want to, come on down to Iowa this spring. I've got a pair of 1/4 mile tracks (Cedar Falls and Earlville) to pick from an an 1/8th mile (Eddyville).

The 0-60 mph times maybe similar......but you can't compare 0-60 mph times to distant times. Just because you hit 60 mph first, doesn't mean you cross the 660' mark first.

The LT1 will get a nose out on the Saturn (because of the torque and soild axle) and just keep pulling. Can you get 2.1 60' times in a Sky? My Z28 has on bald tires.

there are several Redline owners who pull 1.9's for 60' times. I myself have hit a 2.124 60' time when I hit my 9.085 1/8th mile and I admit that I'm not the best driver. I still admit that the LT1 will kill further along the road in the 1/4 though.

(just to clarify, i'm not trying to be rude or nasty, just trying to throw facts out there about the Redline's performance. I've always loved the Trans Am WS6 and would've loved to have been able to afford one when they were still being produced.)

My redline went the exact same time stock as my 1994 LT1 Z28 did. (14.0@100)

The Lt1 car now runs 9s@143-145. Cant drive her around town anymore though!

I have done 2.1 in my Volvo wagon.
Get under 2.0 now you are talking.
Far too many people are concerned with trap speed, the contest is who gets to the finish line first, not who is going faster when they get there.
I have time slips, having trouble posting them... -J

Calling anyone on this forum a "Nazi" is totally and completely against the rules. Whether or not they are a moderator or regular member. It also WILL NOT be tolerated. Any further public, personal attacks from you towards any member may result in the revocation of your posting privileges.

The forum rules are simple. Street racing is against the rules. Period. As such, street racing stories are not allowed, and will be closed and deleted. That is the policy that forum management has elected to put into place.

Cerebus, as a forum mod, has volunteered to help moderate the forum and as such is only doing his duty when pointing out this rule. He is first and foremost a Sky enthusiast and forum member like anyone else. He deserves to be treated with respect as does every other member of this forum.

Do some forums allow kill stories? Yeah. Do they all? No. This one is among those that don't.
