Running the quarter @ LACR

Well, I caught the racing fever tonight also! (just like robotech) I went for a leisurely drive to Palmdale with a friend of mine tonight after leaving RPi's shop today. It seems I caught a racing bug in his shop seeing those Noble M400's and shooting the you know what with his master tech Dale! So it took 2 hours of traffic from RPi's shop in Paramount to the lovely high desert north of Los Angeles called Palmdale, CA.

We made it there around 6:30, and the drags closed at 10:00, so luckily we had enough time for 8 runs!

I figured I'd share some of these times with you guys in case you thought about tracking your cars.

As with everything else, the first time was the best!
Reaction: 0.902 (terrible!)
Time: 15.018 Not bad @ this altitude
MPH: 93.553

2nd Run: I lost because I missed shifting into 2nd gear.
Reaction: 0.750 (getting better)
Time: 15.985
MPH: 88.783

3rd Run: Me against an acura integra (wussie)
Reaction: 0.429
Time: 15.004 (his was 17.509)
MPH: 93.726 (his was 75.073)

4th Run: Me vs. 1991 Ford Mustang 5.0 GT
Reaction: 0.334
Time: 15.287 (Stang was 16.857)
MPH: 90.727 (Stang was 85.813)

Check below for the rest of the times. White means I beat the other person, yellow means I didn't... but I was very happy to beat that stupid Mustang GT. It's been the car i've loved since I was 11, but now i've got something that knocks the socks off of it!

If anyone is interested in taking their car up with me, I'm sure i'll be going about once a month! Any So Cal Sky's interested?

next time!

Let me know next time you go. I just got back from the race school at willow springs. Talk about getting the racing bug. I'm sure there will be a thread with pictures soon. So, so fun.

Fun, isnt it? Practice practice practice. Notice how far apart your runs were? When I went to the track last I ran 18 times. 17/18 were within 2/10 of a second of each other. As you practice, you'll notice your times getting faster. Enjoy your car

By the way, your 60 foot times are horrid. (Reaction 1)

You can get them down into consistent 2.0-2.2 range with more practice. Don't give it so much gas/clutch off the line. Best method I've found to launch the redline without bogging is to rev to 4500 or so, and slowly let the clutch out. This gives enough forward motion to not break the tires loose, but not so little as to bog the motor down to 1500-2000 rpms and kill the turbo's spool. On a well prepped track, you may even see 1.9 or 1.8 60 foot times. And its a no brainer, but disable traction control

Each of these runs happened about 20 minutes from each other as the timestamp on the slips shows. I was burning the tires at launch a little, which killed my reaction times. I think with some practice I can get it down to 14.5's @ 2700ft altitude which is more like 14.0 with everyone elses.

Traction control was first turned off, then I switched over to competitive mode. I couldn't really tell a difference in the two settings. With it on, it was terrible (the 15.8 time).

I think i may try your launching method next time I'm at the track, possibly this friday. I've been launching at around 3000-3500 rpms w/ dumping the clutch. My quickest that way has been a 14.0 with an "ok" 60' time of i think 2.1xx, can't remember, at work right now. I'll let you know how that comes out for me. I basically have the same setup as you minus the charge pipes. Mine are on order actually, hopefully should be finished and shipped this week.

I have ran consistant 13.8/13.9 passses with the 3' Magnaflow as the only aftermarket mod. I haven't made any passes since adding the CAI, but expecting a little quicker ET's, say 13.6's or so. I can't go faster than a 13.49 at my strip, it is a sanctioned NHRA track and any convertable 13.49 or quicker is required to have a roll cage. I am launching aroound 2500 off the brake, T/C off. These cars can run very consistent ET's if you get them dialed in.

Will try to get some passes in soon, at present I am working on dialing in ZOE, which requires a lot of practice She is nasty bad off the line Been working with Ranger on the 'Vette forum on technique, some of his teachings might be applicable to the Manual R/L.

Arrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggg...you should have said something!

I was at Palmdale for PDD on the 19th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Arrrggggggggg...

Anyway, nice runs for up there. I only turned in four the next day. First two stunk but the last one was memorable...

I'd had been getting pretty poor 60's all day...2.4 and up. It wasn't pretty. So I line up for a fourth time in about a half hour. And what am I up against...

...a Cobra Mustang...the supercharged Cobra Mustang...but not with the stock MP112 blower, oh no, this guy has a 2.3L Whipple like mine.

We launch and he gets me a bit on RT...a .154 to my .160 but I make that up in the 60' as he spins more than I do and turns a 2.2 60' to my 2.08. I accelerate through the first half and am ahead at the 1/8 but only 1 MPH faster. The V8 in his car is now really humming and he's making up ground. I keep looking over my shoulder to see where he's at but can't spot him. I cross the line with him probably about 1 car back. He traps 111.7 mph at 13.2.

I ran a 107.4 trap with a 12.968 ET!!!!! This is in full street trim for both of us...regular tires, pump gas, full weight. I'll take that at Palmdale. As voo doo said, it's a dang high elevation track. Ernest, if your track is close to sea level then expect him to be 14.3-14.4 which is pretty good for Palmdale. Stock GTPs run about 15.4-15.6 up there in the heat and this past weekend they could only manage 15.8-15.9.

Good run Buddy. I am hoping to make it to Texas Motorplex this weekend, be my first 1/4 mile runs in the Z06 I have turned 8.2 in the 1/8, but traction was poor, and I never got out of 2nd. I feel good using the technique I am learning on the Vette forum. Been practicing launch technique, and squeeze throttle method. Hey, how's about I give you a call later?

Any time is good so long as it's not super early on a weekend. LOL

I don't see why you shouldn't be able to hit that. If I can hit 11.9 at Sea Level in my setup I'll be happy. In street trim of course. I don't think we can pull below a 11.5 with street trim even with this setup.
