Sky with Z0K package?

Will I be able to compete with a sky in stock class with the Z0K package that is offered for the solstice? I'm hoping that since it is provided by GM that it will be fine. Although I want to make sure before I go and do it then end up putting myself in a class I don't have near enough prep done for.

That is what I figured. Guess I'll be going with Koni shocks and the upgraded suspension parts that are available for the sky.

???

Unless it was a factory option, you can't do it.

PM me. I have dropped every Solo stock legal item available for a Sky Redline into my car. I was still adjusting on it at Nationals but by the last day had it fairly well dialed in. Now the biggest problem is the driver I hired ............. ME !!!!!

I've considered getting the Z0K package on my sky, just because. I don't plan on staying in any real division for autocross. My only wonder is if Saturn would uphold a warranty for the Z0K suspension package...

anyone have any ideas?

I like the stance a lot of the Z0K GXP's, and being a warrantied item is even better, if they'd accept it. I mean warranty claims are written out to GM, not the perspective sub division right?

What parts are solo stock legal that you've installed?

K&N, brake pads, OZ wheels, Hoosiers, Koni S/A's, Saner front bar, alignment, exhaust. Haven't changed the brake fluid yet, but might. I think that about covers it. There are other thinks I would LIKE to do, but they aren't legal.

The warranty is issued by GM for a Saturn Sky (in our case). One can throw anything at the car that fits, but non-SATURN parts have the potential of creating "issues". (Let's not toss in the discussion of Magnuson-Moss.) ANYTHING outside of stock could be a problem. A lot depends on how the dealership treats you. For instance, I had a friendly discussion about my trailer hitch, and I looked him square in the eyes and said it was for a bicycle rack!!! I might not have been honest about THAT one. Then we talked about my less than stock alignment, and the response there that they will not see anything but a stock alignment if I come in with a suspension warranty issue. He got the picture and said "good, that works".

With all that said, there is a far cheaper way of getting the stance. Koni single adjustables will drop the car 1.5". Looks JUST like the stance of the GXP Z0K. No mods, no tweaks. Shock absorbers are "wear items", and as such don't create warranty issues. At their softest setting they are just a touch softer than the stock Bilsteins. Dial in 1/2 turn and they will be a tad firmer. Better action, too. Crank them up the full 2.5 turns and you will come to hate life!!! The Z0K package has stiffer springs, bars, and rear frame cross member, none of which affect the stance, but do firm up the handling. But with the Z0K springs and shocks it will be somewhat stiffer. The Konis will give you the stance, but won't make the car "stiff" unless you adjust up the firmness. You WILL bottom the car on things that weren't a problem with the standard right height, so be aware of that. HTH.

Oh, BTW, once you do any of these changes you'll need an alignment.

THanks for the tips. I do have a friend of mine who does alignments and suspension work so that wouldn't be a problem. I was only trying to use the Z0K package it if would uphold the warranty still. If not, then i was probably going to use aftermarket stuff, possibly adjustable coilovers, combined with the Z0K cross members and bars. I want the handling along with the lowered stance, but also the adjustability to soften it during the winter, and if at all, raise it a tiny bit for some "close to stock" ride height. Still shopping around however, anyone have some good suggestions?

Adjusting ride height has little to do with how stiff the car rides. Sway bars only cone into play in turns. The shocks, if adjustable, will control how stiff jounce and rebound will be. The springs can be adjusted, on adjustable coil overs, for ride height but not spring rate. So if you buy an aftermartket adjustable coilover system, the springs will determine the general firmness of the suspension no matter what the ride height is. Running over dimes and knowing whether it was heads or tails gets old !!!!!

Antonio,

I am working with a vendor on a setup just like what you are looking for. We hope to have it ready by the end of February for testing. Once we get the suspension worked out, I can provide more feedback.

hmmmm, i'd like to know a bit more info about this. Hell, depending on how things work out, i wouldn't mind being a guinea pig for fit and testing.
