Streak is a blast to auto-x

Well, it's time to get this topic going again. Autocross season is alive again everywhere in the country. Over the past 30 days I have run at two Staurday Test & Tunes (Salina, Ks., and KC, Mo.) and two autocrosses in the KC area. First, the car gets a lot of attention (oh, THAT'S a Sky!, is that a factory turbo?) and it is QUICK. It is making me look good, especially after back to back lack luster seasons in my B/Street Prepared Triumph TR8.

A few things to know if anyone is going to autocross their Sky. In C/Stock, last generation Miatas and ZOK Sols own the class. Sky and Sol 2.4's (non-ZOK) will be fun to run, but hopelessly outclassed by the ZOK and Miata. In A/Stock the S2000's and C4 Corvettes properly set up are going to dominate. The 2.0 Kappas are poorly geared for autocrossing in general, but on courses where the max speeds are about 55 mph we can make an impression. Stock alignment will be okay for having fun, but to really take advantage of what the Kappas can do one has to look at 2.25 neg camber in the front, 1.5-1.75 neg rear, and either Hoosier A6's or Kumho V710's. Without the alignment and tires the car can not compete at the head of their classes.

So far, I have gotten the attention of the local A/Stock drivers with Streak. Haven't won yet, and may not this year. Leraning curves and some VERY fast guys around here, but in two events a couple of the go fasters have found themselves behind me.

That's it for now. Another 2 or 3 events coming in April and hopes of further improvement.

And this is what it LOOKS like when an RL is "pressed".

These links are to a massive photo album that a guy did at both events. Each is a series of pictures, so keep clicking "Next" until you see a car that ISN'T a Silver RL.

March 25 - http://www.unixsystemengineer.com/sc...=1DSC_0171.JPG

April 1 - http://www.unixsystemengineer.com/sc...e=DSC_0359.JPG

I am truly amazed out how much the car leans with sticky tires. Although the spring/shock sway bar combo is really very well matched, it becomes almost soft at 9/10th to 10/10th. All in all, it works better than I do, but I am sneaking up on it.
