Track Racing in Florida

I'd like to take my father racing in my Sky for our birthdays. Does anyone know of any tracks in Florida or Southeast area? Please provide names, details, locations, whatever you can. Thanks!

I think there is a track in WPB, but if I recall it is for drag racing than a Daytona Type track, Then of course we have Tropical Park for formula 1's in Miami--as far as free flowing type hilly, curvy roads, i would say driving thru central florida. Around Lake Okee North or South--Of course then that small town cops would love to clock us coming thru---

Now this is cool, (even at my age) didn't even know they existed, or that this club existed--I think I might wanna participate in this--hmm need to read more, and it looks like the slots being only 60 cars fill up quick--Never the less, the fact that I can take my weaked powered base sky out for a little high speed spin--hmm attracts me for some reason, thanks for the url on chin man, appreciated--Need to do more reading, perhaps joining and maybe a reservation--

There are track days at Sebring, Homoroso, and Homested...usually run by various clubs...some out of Orlando...However, all require helmets and usually do not allow rag tops without roll bars or hard tops for safety reasons...good luck...there is a wonderful set of about 3/4 mile twisties just off of Univeristy Parkway between Sarasota and Bradenton...PM me for directions...do have to watch for the constables...otherwise look into one of the driving schools (drive their cars)...BMW, at Spartanburg, SC and Barber racing schools...there is one at Disney World for NASCAR type cars...where you can ride and drive for a fast lap or two...I am afraid the options are limited for a standard rag top...look up The Devils Tail in NC...11 miles with 300 curves...state road...a haven for motorcycle and sports car enthusiastics...you can look it up on Google.com...of the ones suggested by chinmotorsports I would personally recommend VIR...go to google.com...VIR-video...to get a sense by riding along with somene doing a clean lap...I did an Advanced Driving School with BMW there and it was FANTASTIC...a great layout...there is a similar layout at www.autobahncountryclub.com in Illinois...near Elgin, Ill...that does run some open track days...Good luck and have a happy B-day for both you and dad...

You're not going to be permitted to race you Sky on a track for anything besides auto-x. Wheel-to-wheel and most HPDE type events REQUIRE a roll bar be installed in open top cars. Which to date unless you're installing a full on race cage there are no roll-bars that exist for our car.

I know there is a track by Palm Beach Gardens that we used to go to. trying to figure out the name, but there is a sign for it on I-95. They used to have open racing, but I am not sure if it still there.

The big problem is that for the Sky, you'll need to fit a minimum of a 4 point roll bar or a roll cage. It says that right in their rules on the tech form:

You'll find that that's a requirement at virtually every track these days. There are exceptions made for open top cars with factory roll hoops, or pop-up style roll over protection, but the sky has neither of these.

Because in auto-x you're never wheel-to-wheel with anyone else, and speeds are a good bit slower too. Your other option is 1/8 & 1/4 tracks.

My favorite "twisty" roads in the TB area are in the NW Hillsborough area... Racetrack Road to Patterson or Boyscout, then take Keystone east to Gunn Highway, take Gunn north to Lutz Lake Fern, etc, weaving my way north up to Snn Antonio where there are some "hills"! It is the closest thing to "twisties" we have in the area that I ever found. Makes a fun little loop.

Any other suggestions?

Beth
