Anyone heard of something called Aquapel?

Looks interesting, I may get some... Aquapel is supposed to last much longer than RainX.

Aquapel

Hi,
I've been using Aquapel for over a year now.
It works great!
It lasts 3 times longer than Rainx.
I would highly recommend this product!

My salesman gave me some of this when I got my car (he's a local dealer for it) and also one of our local group members passed some out on our End of Summer run.

IMHO it is the BEST and it lasted on my car for over 6 months without the streaking and blurring that you get with RainX. An additonal advantage is that it is SO MUCH easier to apply!!!

I have been using this for 2.5 years and it is nothing short of spectacular when compared with its competitors in regards to durability and ease of application.

It should last 6 months on the windshield and 1 yr on the other glass.

I also use this on certain home windows that historically had required frequent cleaning. It has cut the frequency down to 1/3.

Well - I ordered some from tirerack. We'll see how it goes.

Bit expensive, but heck, if it lasts I'm all 4 it.

How about this... from a Aquapel vs Rainex discussion...

"I've tried both and know what seems to work almost as well? Clean windshield really well, cut potato in 1/2... punch a few little holes in potato. Smear over windshield, polish windshield. Simple starch. Lasts about 3 car washings, and heck of lot less expensive, no bottles to recycle, no chemical worries. I've used it for years, simple, clean, easy."

Well, as you might imagine, I have actually tried this.

1) It does NOT work as well as rainx.

2) The effects are so temporary that within (my estimate) about 40 wipes of the wipers and it is back to a normal windshield.

3) The spray on wax at a drive through car wash works about twice as good as the 'potato starch' home remedy.

Had 'reasonable' results using spray-on starch (as in ironing), but still far short of rain-x.

Turns out I have an acquaintence that just got some and is very impressed with it. He gave me a few applicators, and I have now applied it.

Very strange - when you break the applicator, it smells almost like crazy glue for a second, and you get a spritz of a chemical-like mist. Goes on well, easy to get polished.

So far, it works as good as a normal application of rain-x. I have run the wipers a few times with no effect (usually start to see changes in rain-x in about 100 wipes of the wipers) to the water repellance (is that a word? ).

Lotsa rain here in Michigan these last few days.

I'll keep everyone updated. Rain-x for me used to last from beginning of december to about christmas, where I would have to reapply if I were travelling for the holidays. Then another re-apply of Rain-X in middle-end of January, and again in Feb - so about 3-5 weeks is all Rain-X lasts for me. So, by the beginning of the year, I'll know if Aquapel is better.

I think I saw that on MacGyver once.

My Experience...

Rain-X is good stuff. In heavy rain in NC, it will last about 2.5 weeks. I once put that aquapel stuff on my Mr2, it worked about the same. MAYBE 1.5 times longer, but not too much. I used it on every window on the 91-t-top MR2 Turbo. It came as a "blade-like" applicator and you had to snap something inside to create the chemical reaction. (OOOOOH, i just remembered: I bought it for cheap because some idiot has just walked in the store and snapped it and the owner said if I used it today, there would be no problem).

Maybe my experience was due to the fact that the chemical reaction was taking place at the time I purchased the product. Anyway, that was my experience. I paid a little more then Rain-X and it lasted a little longer then Rain-X. It wasn't any easier to apply, except that you didn't need an aplication towel. You apply it with the blade and then you still have to buff it off like Rain-X.

You could be right... sounds like something from his show. I haven't tried either of the products. Usually keeping the windshield clean and making sure the wipers are in good condition is all that is necessary for me. Being retired and having the time to keep everything "spiffy" makes a big difference, too.
