The Dealer Washed My Sky ...

I took my car to the dealer for an oil change.
I tell them "DO NOT WASH MY CAR" not just once - but TWICE.

So what do they do ?
They wash my car & it is now covered with swirled scratchmarks.
I am so furious I could wring someone's neck.

I am supposed to take the car back tomorrow morning when the Service Manager for the dealerships and IDIOT detailer (the guy that washed the car) are in. And we are all going to look at the mess they made of my car.
I had already told them that I did not want thier so-called detailer touching my car again. They better keep him on the opposite side of the car from me or .
I had already gone through a mess with this idiot last fall & they had to pay for a professional detailer to fix it - that is why I ALWAYS tell them "DO NOT WASH MY CAR".

I don't know whether blood takes out swirls, but may be something to consider. I have it ***** noted on my work order, and used to tape a note in the car.

Edit: On a more constructive note, poke around here in the detailing section for folks' feedback on dealing with swirls.

Does it not just scare the sh** out of you that this is where we have to take our cars?

I had mine into to the Saturn dealership, told them the cup holder still will not close after you have a drink it in....the tech said ah it works, it go's in and out!!!, so when I was told it was fixed I tried it...didnt work...had service adviser sit in the car and try it himse'lf.... he was not happy.
told them the car is whining for the first 30-45 minutes from cold start up and would have to leave it overnight sometime for them to check it out... the tech drove it and said I HEAR NO WHINING....duh it isn't cold start..... dumb a**

so sorry about your car, I think I would make a huge widow sign that go's across the whole window, DO NOT WASH THIS CAR

maybe they might see it that way... bummer MAKE THEM FIX IT...........

Same thing happened to me last week. I have already had anothjer dealer detroy the surface of my car so it is very touch and will sctratch easily. I asked them to not wash my car and when I pick it up it is dripping water and my service guy tells me it has not been washed DUH. To make it worse the puddle on the trunk full of dirty water. Boy was I pissed---

Told them I have a new noise in my rear. They said they could hear it but were not able to fix it. Now what I am suppose to do???

I always tell the service manager not to wash my car also. I have done this with every car that I have ever owned, but sometimes the message doesn't get out. I know the swirl marks are bad, but I have actually found scratches in the paint from these 'helpfull' washes.
The problem is universal at almost all dealers because the lowest paid most disgruntled employees are the ones that do these jobs. A few months ago I was at a Ford dealer in Texas getting some parts for my mother's car when I looked over and saw the guys at the outdoor wash rack having a fun old time throwing the wet towels at each other, picking them up off the ground, then continuing to wash the car. I told the parts guy I would never bring a car to them for service and pointed out the door. He didn't seem to be too concerned, I guess, because it wasn't his department.

These are NOT just swirl marks.
These ARE scratches - and they are swirled in shape.
The entire car is covered with them.
Makes me furious and wanting to cry all at once.

I swear they must have used the dirtiest rag they had to wash it with.

Tomorrow is going to be an interesting day. Hubby usually intercedes when he sees that someone is p'ing me off to the point that thier lives may be in danger. BUT he has a dentist appointment in the morning & I will be at the dealership without him. God help the people at the dealership because I am NOT happy.

Daughter & hubby are both tip-toeing around me tonight - in fact, hubby just brought me a large snifter of Cognac. Said he figures it might help lower my current stress level. uhm, NOPE.

Hi everyone - I just got home from a full day of running.

Took the Sky to the dealer. The service manager decided that it would NOT be a good idea for the detailer to be there (DUH!). They have a different manager than they had last fall & this one seems to be way more cooperative.
He agreed that the whole thing was thier fault and promised that they would correct the situation.

I let him know that I am very particular about my vehicles and that I am beyond picky about my Sky's care. So he made a phone call to bring in someone from one of thier other "upper-end" dealerships and stated to them that this was going to be at minimun a full-day job and that it was beyond the expertise of "our guy".

They understand that they are getting one shot to fix this mess to my satisfaction - after that, my detailer will get it for which they will have the honor of writing the check - & they were also informed that any damage to the custom pinstriping will be repaired by my pinstriper and also paid for by them. And they agreed to every single bit of it.

The funny part was after they agreed to all that, they then offered to give me a ride home but I quickly informed them that I had things to do and needed a car and that it better not be an Ion, so they decided they needed to pay for a rental car - which started out to be an "Aveo" but ended up as a '08 Ford Escape after I fussed about it (again).

We will see how things go from here ... so stay tuned.

p.s. - I also told their "new" Service Mgr. that I had posted about this situation on both the Sky & Sol forums and that I had put it on my blog at my ImSaturn page and that I plan to keep it updated as to status.

... then I asked him if he realized that GM/Saturn monitors all 3 of these sites.

I'm even gladder I don't have to start taking up a collection for your bail!

I'm glad too !

But - I can tell you that I was angry enough that if I had been given one bit of guff that bail could have become a possiblity.

Go get em' Celt!! When you pick the car up look CLOSELY at all sharp area's (ie: Edges of body panels, around the chrome and make sure they do not "BURN" anything with the buffer. Burning is unfixable without painting and/or part replacement. Especially check the door handles and the Chrome around the holes in the trunk and the Hood chrome. If you get a chance, call and make sure they will be masking off all the chrome. If they do not, they will screw the chrome up! Also, do not forget to check the edges of the hood to see if they burned the paint off.

Using a buffer on a car like this, with all the chrome parts and sharp lines is VERY HARD. Believe me I learned the hard way on an old car of mine, and most people miss burns when it happens, take the car home and do not see it until one sunny day when they are washing the car! Bring a flashlight!! <
