Gary, HELP

Some clown threw some gum on my hood in the middle of the afternoon and it's a mess. Tried bug and tar cleaner and that just smeared it. What do you recommend?

Get bubble gum remover from a.. cleaning store I guess.. not sure where. It is not a "cleaner" as you think, all it does is spray out a really REALLY cold fluid that freezes pretty much anything. Frozen bubble gum doesn't stick to anything, so once its frozen you just peel it off. If you cant find any of that stuff, what I have done (and yes, I have had gum on my car) is take a plastic bag, fill with ice, the pour lots of salt in there (that makes the ice colder, though it melts faster), place that on the bubble gum, let it sit and freeze, and rub off.

Thanks for the ideas. Think I might try the ice first before smearing Skippy all over the hood, but if the ice doesn't work...........

No I do not lick gum off of Skys. Of course fresh roadkill is a differant story. The ice ought to do fine, just get it real cold and then pull it off and get every bit of it. Alkeyhol oughta work for the last little bit of sticky and then wax or whatnot after. Dang I never did learn how to spell ALCOHOL....Skip...But do not smear me all over your front hood. And besides yall get all them treerats coming down ta lick your hood then. Dang squirrel love PB and pecans...

A product called "freeze it" which is essentially gum remover found at any local janitorial supply store, once the gum is froze, take an old credit card and gently scrape off the gum, I do this all the time with gum on carpet. Gary

Goof off seems a little harsh and was afraid it might screw up more than it helped. Thought I'd try something less severe at first anyway. It wasn't too awfully bad until I tried the bug and tar stuff and that just made a mess.

Thanks, Gary, and to everyone else (even Skip) for the suggestions. Will try the freeze it first.

When I used to work at the movie theater I would get a can of air from the offices and turn it upside down and spray it on the carpet or any surface to get the dried gum off.

Well, the freeze stuff didn't work. Maybe it had gotten too smeared when I tried the bug and tar remover on it. Guess peanut butter is next. Assume smooth would be better than chunky.

did you freeze it and then try like a credit card to chip it off? I wouldnt use the bug and tar because as soon as the bug and tar hit the surface of the cold gum, convection takes place and takes away the effective property of the freeze effect.

Had tried the bug remover on Sunday right after it happened and it just made a mess. Did the freeze stuff yesterday, but the gum wasn't a glob any more, but a smear. The credit card got some of the thicker places off, but the smear is still there.

Think I finally got it. Took some 409 and a soft towel and just kept after it. Afraid I got a little too happy with the credit card and scratched her, but I think it can be buffed out. Thanks for all the suggestions.
