MicroFiber Towels

How do you take care of these towels....can you wash them? Are they only good for one drying? I assume they get contaminated also?

I don't know how much difference it really makes but I have read on several car care sites that you should was them separately. They also sell a special micro fiber cleaner. I just wash them separate from the other towels.

I also use the special soap/cleaners for them, several types are available. Other use regular soaps and cleaners and use regular soaps in regualr laundry, but donno if they clean/remove the residuals from wax/polish or sealants. Then I air dry them, no dryers..

Actually there 3 types of towels you can use, or 4 I have found. Micro-fiber, for removing polish, wax & sealants. Terry cloths, for the same as above also good for drying. Special Micro-weave type towels for windshileds/glass. Finally a water/drying type towel that replaces chamois. I have all 4 types..

I have three levels of MF towels

pristine (un-used)...for drying off the car (also for buffing off a wax-job)

slightly used (washed a couple of times) for drying off the
wheels, rims, mud flaps etc

well used.....for drying my truck or any non-solstice event

I buy a new 12-pack every spring..they are cheap enough that you can afford to do this

I also have a pack of red...shop rags....which i use for any areas where I want a NON-ABRASIVE job done !!

I have a bunch of microfiber cloths and reuse them frequentlly. I have tried a bunch of stuff and Micro-Restore Microfiber Detergent Concentrate has worked the best for me. I got it from autogeek.net here is a pic for reference:

You will want to let the microfiber air dyr and do NOT place them in teh dryer. The dryer can melt the microfibers and the towel will not work as well. After using the microfiber detergent the towels feel good as new again. Hope this helps.

I've been told they can be machine washed as long as you don't use any fabric softener.

We are doing great. Been awhile since the St Louis road trip. We are heading back up that way again in July to visit the daughter and then maybe up to Chicago to participate in Kappa run. By the way I heard that there is a stretch of highway north of St Louis, along the Mississippi River that if you tried hard enough you could get your Redline up to 125 mph. I just heard that of course.
