Vinegar = good bye water spots!!!!
Love this forum. I washed the Duckmobile today in the sun, though I was quick and I always dry the windows first, but I ended up with lots of water spots on the glass. Windex would not cut it but I picked up the tip of using vinegar to cut the deposits, works like a charm!!!!

Does the vinegar have any negative effect on the paint, or on the wax? I've washed mine a few times, and find the waterspots horrible behind the back window on the deck lid, even after doing the speed run to blow dry it on the highway...
...sounds like a trick worth trying though.

I was careful and only rubbed the glass with the vinegar, did not touch the beautiful yellow finish.

Garage does smell a little, but not to bad. Getting ready to put some briskets and butts on the smoker for this weekend. The smell of hickory smoke will overpower anything for this overnighter. Will be looking forward to some good pulled pork samaches for the weekend. Little bit of Bad Byran's Butt Rub on the butts (every butt needs a good rub), some dizzy dust and cow lick on the briskets, might even do some ribs Saturday for a trifecta of bbq. Some bonesmokers rub on the ribs with Big Bob Gibson's Red Sauce on the last twenty minutes or so.
A little vinegar smell will be the least of my problems!

I have water spots all over the windows and nothing seems to remove them. Thanks for the vinegar tip - going to try it today.

Do you just wet a towel with vinegar and wipe onto the window? I have horrible window spots and nothing, especially Windex, has helped. I will try this over the weekend when I cleanup my SKY. Thanks for sharing!

I was told once to use vinegar with newspaper. Newspaper does not lint like paper towels do. Windex used to have a version of their window cleaner that had vinegar in it.
http://www.windex.ca/windex_vinegar.asp A WORD OF CAUTION: I would be careful using vinegar on tinted windows. I would think that this could damage the tint. I have also heard that Spray and Wash (stuff for laundry stains) works as well. Last edited by keiffer6 : 05-25-2007 at 12:50 PM. |

Yep, just I just wetted a white shop towel with vinegar I stole from the kitchen, rubbed the windshield with it, dryed it with another towel and then for good measure cleaned it again with windex, water spots gone.

Actually the formula that my momma used on windows was one part water to two parts vinegar. That and also using telephone books because as stated about lint content. And as stated clean one way outside like up and down against cleaning side ways inside so one could tell what side of the window is streaked. Iffen you smoke it does take a second effort to get rid of the tar on the window. And also smokers look at that tar and that is what the inside of your lungs look like. After cleaning windows , it is best to use a rain-x application to keep the rain from sticking while driving....Skip...being helpful on a Friday.....

Water spots
The first time I washed my Sky, the water spots on the beautiful red finish were horrible, even after taking it for a "dry" run at high speed. After much elbow grease was used, I finally got them all off. After that, I went to Wal-Mart, and bought a cheap ($30, or so) leaf blower. It's very small and compact, but puts out a lot of air. Now when I finish washing, I blow dry it, much like they do at a car wash, and then I finish drying with cloths made for that purpose, purchased at an auto supply store. Works like a charm, and I've had no water spot problems since.

I also have started using city water for car washing instead of my well water, just a little more hose. Our city water here in Eugene comes from inside the Cascade Mountain range and down the McKenzie River, very nice and soft water, better than bottled water. Well water will always have more minerals. During the summer I have also started to wash the car around 8 in the evening, sun is over the hill and I have more time to get all the water drops off with micro-fiber towels.
