Without a clear coat...

So I've had my Sky roughly two months now and wash it just about every weekend with water and microfiber towels. I'm starting to get some water spots here and there and they're not quite coming out. When I bought the car at the dealership, they said they could put that protective "clear coat" on it for $XXX but I declined it. Is this something I should get done to remedy this problem?

Also, if I never get that clear coat and decide to wax my car, is there anything I should be afraid of? The waxing shouldn't get screwy without clear-coat, right?

I didnt get anything special with either of my Skys..... I use Wax as you Dry by Eagle 1..... works great... .there are alot of good waxes ... do a search for wax.... it may show up there... SkyBaby

Check the stickied threads in the detailing section. You can do the same for little $. The "first detail" thread's a great start. You have the "clear coat". A good sealant after removing the water spots and prepping the paint is all they're talking about, although you'll probably be a bit more careful with prep.

You must be talking about the Xzilion paint protection plan. It's just a paint sealant, like the one you buy at a store. It's no good. A good mixture to use to remove waterspot. Is a 1:1 vinegar dilute with water. First spray the panel and your microfiber to see if it removes it. On some tougher waterspots. Let the solution dwell.

Also mostly all of todays cars have Clear coat. The saturn sky differently has clear coat. Some have single stage paint, by thats only a little bit.

I'm a big fan of no water and soap. Unless I drive my car thru mud (which I would never do) I just wipe it off with this:

I use the Final Touch....amazing product....works on paint, windows and chrome....then use the clay bar with it to remove road grime if you have it. Then once and awhile you can use the dry and wax products. I have only washed my car with water and soap once since I have purchased it. But it is garaged all the time and I live in sunny southern California....so I understand the water issue in other states.....

^ You can't always use clay bars. Clay bars removes your layer of wax and then this makes it easier for air borne containments to bond to your car.
