Carbon Fiber Engine cover

Clear Image Automotive is pleased to announce that our new Show quality Carbon Fiber engine cover is almost done!
We received the 1st prototype and will be making a few minor changes, but it is on track to getting produced shortly. We will be using a stock mounting situation that will only require screwing in (3) more "pop on" studs to the valve cover ( tapped holes are already there, same as the one rear mount ) so that this will show no mounting hardware or mounting points! Extremely clean and simple.
This is also designed to match the body lines of the car in certain area's.
We also have the capability to do colored Kevlar, and color inlays as a custom touch!
Pricing will be announced once we have the final cover design done and ready for production. ( soon, very soon! )

I dont know about FAKE carbon fiber. My hood cost me $800. Made by a company called Seibon. Pretty decent stuff. Just so happen that it got heat rash where the header were. So I'm just wondering if it is going to be the same for this product. If not I would really think about getting one.

No it was just the carbon fiber with clear coat over it. You buy carbon fiber to show it off. So that is what I did.

I don't even know what "heat rash" in relation to carbon fiber is. I had a carbon fiber hood on my Impala SS. It was painted to match the rest of the car. When it left the body shop the finish was perfect. After a few months you could then start to see the weave of the carbon fiber through the paint. You couldn't feel it, just see it. The body shop has no idea why it did that. It looked fine. Just like they meant for it to happen. No bloches or anything.

The manufacturer who we have contracted to build these do not anticipate any problems from heat. They currently build most or all of Lingenfelters carbon fiber parts without issue.

That sounds like heat rash. I guess it is a canadian tuner word. Because alot of the carbon fiber products ie hood covers .. .. near the engine show these signs. If it isnt near the engine it doesn't have a problem. My cf trunk didn't have a problem. Can you do a heat test for us ?

The pre-production part will be completely finished for my eval. I will install it and run my car with the shorty header. I tried to melt the stock plastic cover a couple times. I got the surface temp to almost 200 degrees but never got it to melt or even soften. i will happily try the same thing with the CF.

But right now I need to know what you guys think of the design. That is my focus here. If nobody likes it we need to change the design again. Once everyone gives us the oohs and ahhs we can get a part made to test.

Thanks for the feedback. Todd also mentioned the same thing. i will pass it on to the manufacturer.

This is an engine cover. It will directly replace this:

Looks good, But maybe it could have the words sky turbo redline on it. Or something to make it a more finished look???

I agree with YellowSky... if the humps are meant to mirror the aero-fairings on the trunk, they need a little work. Also, maybe a molded in indention where we could peel off the EcoTec badge from the original and stick it on your part (assuming the EcoTech badge comes off... I just looked and it appears that it does, but I may be wrong). I'm in if the price is right.

Note that this is the cover for the 2.4L engine, not the cover for the 2.0 Turbo (which I am intimately familiar with having painted mine.)

As for the design, I like it. I wish the humps were creased like the SKY versus rounded like the Solstice, but I understand that you wouldn't want to make two separate parts for the two cars.

As for colors, I'd like either red or the natural carbon fiber black.

And I am a bit troubled by the wide open spaces on the cover. Lots of big and flat - it does need some sort of graphic or logo or something to break up the space - like GM did with the simulated tubes and grooves.

All in all, though, I like the concept. I think it's sharp, and something that I would consider getting.

I like the natural Black. Also, need a logo. Maybe something with a
holograpic or semi transparent look.
