Ok, I was just about ready to order your cat-back exhaust system as a means for increasing HP. I have enough for one upgrade at this time, the cat-back system or the intercooler. Which is the better bang for the buck?

Secondly, I realize that increasing HP is not cumulative to the extent that either would give me individually, but what can I expect when I install the cat-back system or intercooler at a later date in terms of more horsepower or performance?

Someone else had asked the same thing. If I wanted to improve performance right away, I would do the intercooler. If I wanted a little better performance and sound, I would go with the exhaust. Now, we have not dynoed the intercooler on a redline without our GT exhaust so the hp numbers may vary. The 84% thermo efficiency of the intercooler is indisputable though. That mod will let you run at your cars peak much longer than your stock intercooler will allow. Does this help? Its a tough call as the combination of the mods is what gave us the final number we have now.

Yea, that answers the question. So when and where can I get the intercooler and if I understood correctly, the stage 2 is the one for my 2.0, as the larger units are primariy designed for higher HP engines, correct?

You will find the ordering details here for their new intercooler
http://raceprecision.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=103

Stage 2 is what you want for your Redline. I believe anything higher than a stage 2 was frowned on at this point as there is absolutely no point unless your at a much higher HP but RPI could comment on that

yep, pretty much right. If you're trying to make big power, I.E. Replacing redline turbo with bigger turbo, then this one is great.

Steven, you said in another thread somewhere that RPI is planning a kit for the RL that will bring it past 300whp (I think). I'm wondering if at that point the bigger intercooler will be needed.

Maybe you or Eloy can comment on that? I would not want to buy a $900 part now that I would not need in 6 months if I opt for that.

The stage 2 is what we were making to put into our 2.0GT package (which becomes the stage 2). 2.0GT, we are shooting for 350-400whp. This will include a full motor rebuild, etc. Trust me, I am using a smaller Bell core on Brutus and he is making much more power than the redline. You wont have to upgrade the stage 2 intercooler unless you are looking to make 700hp or something.

Has anyone installed the intercooler themselves? I just received it and was wondering if it's pretty self-explanatory once I take the bumper off. Eloy? Any surprises we should be aware of for the do-it-yourself? Thanks!

RPI intercooler

I have already installed my RPI intercooler. It is pretty straight foreward to do. You need to reuse the the four clips on the sides of the old one. You might want to buy some new push plugs at auto parts store instead of reusing the old ones.

Eloy.....is there a new group buy coming up? The more I think and think about this, the more I think I might just pull the trigger while I'm waiting for an american tuner for our cars. I think I'd rather skip my monthly Atlantic City trip for the intercooler

The group buy was more of a pre-order group buy waiting list. If anything I may put together a new group buy where you get free shipping. There isnt much room to play with on this intercooler as we cut our normal profit margins on this particular product. One of the hard things also is that many Saturn dealerships are selling the intercooler now and I do not want to undercut our own dealers. The free shipping still saves you guys $35-40 though for a far superior product that what is offered by other companies.

For those of you who want to know about the install, instructions were posted on our forum http://www.raceprecision.com/forums/....php?p=326#326

oh I understand. I was just merely asking. Also to see if more people were interested in buying this at once, since you did mention that you didn't make too much off it, you'd want to send an order of a bunch to the manufacturer rather than just a few. Well, I guess put me on whatever list you want, as I'm pretty much ready to order along with anyone else wants to order one in the next few days.

For the free shipping, just call to order and mention this thread. $38 in savings is still saving. One thing I love about putting out a quality product is it holding its value. hehe. We never have to clearance someone like this out. We have sold over 30 of these intercoolers now at $899.
