Thats why I love you guys. Ask away. We had open house testing on Thursday so YOU guys can see how we test the intercooler. We are having open house testing again today (Beta boy is bringing magnaflow and cai). Your own forum member was here monitoring our inlet and outlet temps. Thats the ONLY way to monitor cooler efficiency. The hp increase is just a bonus. The average temp difference was 122F. After several runs on the dyno, our pre intercooler temps registered 230F while outlet registered 108F. This was at 86F ambient. Why am I so happy? The intake temp on the 2.4 NA was measured at 112F! Even our Noble intercooler upgrade averaged an 80F difference compared to the stock 48F.

Eloy,

Nice temperature drop
Did you do a pressure difference from the turbo to the throttle body yet. I'm hoping to see a improvement (less difference than stock). Thanks

We did not do a pressure test from the turbo to the engine as we do not have the test equipment here. To test pressure and flow rate, we purchased a stock intercooler from GM and sent it to Bell Engineering/Intercoolers. Pressure tests were conducted on the intercooler only as testing from turbo to engine is insignificant when our main concern is intercooler's flow and efficiency improvement. This is a complete collaberation between RPi and Bell so this unit will not be sold from any other place but here.

I'm obviously interested in your intercooler. So I guess I will to get a pressure diference meter to see the improvements myself. I am very particular about the numbers...being that's my nature as an engineer

Thanks Eloy! So let me ask you this possibly dumb question. Since you used to be in NJ you know it get's cold up here in the northeast. Will a new IC have as dramatic effect in December as it does in July?

Heck yeah. You know how fast my turbo cars were in the winter there???? lol.

I ran 11.9@122 in my mr2 with a STOCK intercooler at ATCO raceway. It wasnt until it started to get hot in spring that I had to upgrade my intercooler because of the pinging.

I did the simple calculation for efficiency on this core and it comes out to

Ambient temp = 86F
charge temp = 230F
outlet temp = 108F

230F - 86F = 144F inlet rise temp
230F - 108F = 122F drop
122F/144F = 84.7% EFF

Corrected for ambient temp, now this is much better

122F/230F = 53% efficiency @ 86F. Bell recommends between 60 and 70% efficiency. Eloy, are you trying to get to this level of efficiency??
http://www.dragsource.com/index.php?...s&calctoview=2

84.7% efficiency

You forgot to subtract the ambient from the denominator.

To calculate an intercooler's thermal efficiency, you take the temperature in from the turbo minus the temp out of the intercooler, divided by the temp in from the turbo minus the ambient (or outside) temperature. Take that number, multiply it by 100, and you have the cooler's thermal efficiency. Here is the formula:

Temp In-Temp Out
------------------------ X 100 = Thermal Efficiency
Temp In-Temp Ambient

Come on man, were you sent by the kidnappers?

Hehe, its all good man. Trust me, we DO our homework. Many get impatient with how long it takes for us to make something but its because we do so many tests.

I was just poking fun:

Okay, I'm not sure what I mean. Do you mean since it is cold here already the upgraded intercooler won't help in the winter, or does the "heck yeah" mean it will help?

that was a serious heck yeah. Turbo's love cold.......absolutely love it. My quickest run to date at the track was actually in 32° weather. But there's a bad side to this....Turbo's love cold........Tires HATE cold.

Of course you will need it more in hot weather but you still benefit from it during the cold months as you get even closer to ambient. Our intercooler (stage 2) is 84% efficient. Can you imagine what the temp of the air coming into your engine will be if its 40F outside???

It would be $95 install. $160 if you want a dyno after also. You'll be at our shop for about 2 hours.

So here's what it looks like

For those of you that are wondering what it looks like on your sky, here it is:
(Of course, my car is lowered)

Also, having driven with the intercooler for a couple days, and having "tested" it a couple times, I can now say it works great. Turbo still spools up quickly, no matter how hard on it I have been all day.

Also, you don't have to remove the front black grill, but come on, you should...

Several questions as I know you love em'

1. When will you begin selling the new IC?

2. How difficult is it to install? Any special tools required etc..?

3. Will you have instructions available for the install and if so, could I possibly get an email copy just to see what I would be getting involved in with regards to the install?

4. You mentioned in one of your posts that one of your guys was driving it to see if the ECU could learn the new setup properly and make appropriate adjustments. Did the car pass this test?
