navcop had an interesting point about noise. The trunk is lined, but there may still be more noise than the standard configuration.

I am a bit concerned about the difficulties in replacing/realigning the trunk lid and the soft top. If I had one of these, it would be used fairly regularly, so the changeover would have to be pretty quick and easy.
JRinKY,
Replacing the deck lid is not too big of a deal. We suggest that the alignment of the deck lid and the hinges be marked on the deck lid before removal (tape, china marker, etc) to facilitate the reinstallation and get the alignment 90% on track with final adjustments being minor.

The removal (and reinstallation) of the soft top is a bit more tricky. Convertable tops are complex animals and are probably best left to a good body shop or the dealership.

Cheers,
Matt

Mat,
Thanks for the reply, awesome. Looking forward to seeing one in person. It might come in handy here in Maine in the fall time frame before it gets put away for the winter time. Thanks again.

The wing is attached to the trunk-lid so removing the trunk to install this hard-top would result in the removal of the wing. So in essence yes, you can use it with a car that has a wing.

As mentioned at the SolForum too they're working on rewiring kits to relocate to OnStar/XM antenas/

Imho....

Matt,

First off, a huge THANKS for jumping into a market that is just developing and offering support to this website.

Second, as you can see I'm here in MICHIGAN and will need one of your tops. In fact if I had my RedLine, I think I would be putting it on NOW!!!!

Lastly, I fired off an e-mail to you so take a look for that.....

Again, it takes a monumental effort to get a global organization that specializes in Engineering to get into aftermarket products. My compliments to your team on a job well done.

PS: To all you "purists", let's hold down the negative comments. If you want EDAG to design a coupe hardtop, that's fine, but trashing a new vendor is just plain wrong. How about some positive input about how much you would PAY for a coupe hardtop that has a Class A finish, a matching roofliner that uses sound supression material and attachs to the existing mount points?

If you don't care for the product, please JUST CLICK THE "BACK" BUTTON!!!

HoldHard

Hi folks! My name is Matt Remenar and I am the program manager for the Solstice hardtop at EDAG. We are pleased to announce release of the EDAG Sportwagon hardtop at the SEMA show next week. We have shown our original show car at the 2006 NAIAS (Detroit auto show) and the 2006 Geneva Auto show in Switzerland. The vehicle at the SEMA show will be much closer to production intent as far as the design of the inner structure is concerned. I have attached a pdf of our brochure that contains more info about the hardtop.

I'll cover some of the general details below.

The hardtop is engineered and designed to an automotive OEM level.

The outer shell and inner structure are constructed using a process named RTM (Resin Transfer Molding). The end result is a fiberglass mat reinforced resin part that is molded with a dark grey sandable primer gel coat. Since this is an injection molding process, the surface quality on both sides of the part is very good, especially compared to a traditional open mold fiberglass layup. The resulting part is very strong and dimensionally stable.

The glass is OEM automotive quality real glass.

The headliner is constructed using OEM quality automotive materials.

We use automotive grade (coated for rust resistance) fasteners and bonded in steel reinforcements at all attaching points.

The hardtop should weigh approx. 115 lbs ( the decklid as removed weighs about 42 lbs)

The production deck lid is removed and the soft top can be stowed in the vehicle or removed completely. By removing the soft top completely, the storage is greatly increased, but the removal is a bit technically challenging and probably best left to a professional. The old jokes that getting it out isn't too tough, but the correct installation is the fun part.

We will start production in January 2007.

The price is $2499 plus taxes and shipping from Detroit, Michigan.

We will soon be taking orders at www.edag-us.com At this time, people will be able to fill out a form with their contact info so that we may provide more info as the start of production nears.

I am sure that there will be a number of detail items that are not completely covered above or in the attached pdf. Please feel free to reply to this thread with any questions and I will reply as quickly as I can.

A quick word about EDAG. We are a global transportation engineering company with offices in over 15 countries around the world. We specialize in provide engineering services to primarily the automotive and aerospace industries, but are active in all facets of transportation engineering.

This is an early annoucement for the members and visitors to the Solstice and SkyRoadster forums. When visiting www.edag-us.com (the website for our US office) it currently links to the site of our parent company in Germany (www.edag.com). Our US specific website featuring the Solstice hardtop and soon to come Sky hardtop should be up and running on October 31st.

If you are attending SEMA, please feel free to stop by booth 51267 (near Overhaulin') and say hi and take a closer look at our Solstice.

Thanks!
Matt

Miata has a wonderful hard top retractable, why can't GM do it for the Solstice and the Sky? Before you bash me, let me just say, that I love the wind in my hair, what's left of it, but the wagon does not appeal to me. I would imagine a retractable hard top would pretty much eliminate all if not most of the storage area, but you could still drop the top effortlessly yet still have the security of a hard top. I do love the looks of the sky. Will keep lurking here to see what develops. We need to be ahead of the competition.

JRinKY,
I think that some of the current moon roof suppliers could set something up for you. There is an open area above the occupants that could be set up for one. We aren't in the moon roof business, but companies such as Webasto and others may have something that will fit. The ideas for customization are endless.

Cheers,
Matt

Matt,

There is mention in your literature of "more interior headroom". Can you be more specific ? A fully functional moonroof will decrease the headroom somewhat, so it would be nice to know how much extra there is to work with.

Are you planning any public opportunities to see the production-level product ? I am quite interested in seeing one in person.

You mention production starting in January, what is your anticipated shipping date for a Sky product ?

Thanks for the info,

Thanks for the info,
JRinKY,
There is approx. 2 inches more headroom if measured from a normal seating position. We had a couple of taller people get into the car at SEMA and comment positively about the head room.

We will be building production parts for the Solstice in January, so either come on by to the Metro Detroit area or we may be trying to hit some of the big Solstice shows through out the year.

The Sky production date is TBD. We are working through the design and development as well as working on the production tool timing with our suppliers. Mid spring is anticipated and as we get closer, I will be happy to share more info.

Cheers,
Matt

Hi jarcher,
We will provide them in a gel coat primer. This allows a body shop to match the paint to a specific vehicle. It also provides an easy way for people to get creative with the paint schemes.

Cheers,
Matt

IMHO It just doesn't work for me, that's all, I don't understand why you would want to ruin a beautiful roadster by adding a station wagon look to it, makes it look like a KIA sport wagon or a MAZDA
