Any chance of seeing pictures of it inside the truck?

Yep, soon. I'm trying to find a good source for matching carpet.

Heres what it will look like.

The new extension drops the factory trunk down an extra 10". The actual product will be much deeper than the picture looks.

Does the extra depth allow an airline carry-on to fit in that space ?
I am guessing not, based on your comment about custom luggage.

It might. I have two versions right now. I'm trying to extend the trunk as much as possible so a larger one may fit. The custom luggage will be very close if not the same dimensions as a regular carry on.

what is exactly moved or re-located below the stock trunk to allow for this extra space?

Since there's cutting involved, is this a weekend-er friendly upgrade, or better left to professionals?

I'm assuming no, since you wouldn't design it that way....but does this extension lower the overall ground clearance?

Can someone purchase the extended trunk from you who does not have the GT package or exhaust?

Thanks

The stock muffler area is completely cleared when the GT exhaust is installed. It doesn't affect ground clearance at ALL. The extended truck actually sits almost 2" above the rear fascia. Here are some pics.

Cutting is involved but its not difficult because the stock trunk is plastic. You'll need someone who can rivet, silicone and rework your carpet inside though. As of this time, I do not know of any other exhaust that would clear that area.

Standard carry on luggage is 22"x14"x9". Our extended truck measure in at 20"x15"x13". It's very very close. You will definately be able to fit one of the smaller carry-ons. I'm going to see if we can extend it another 2".

Appears to me that what they have done is eliminated any type of muffler (which use to be down thar in front of the rear bumper). Then instead of having a "empty" space or hole underneath, they created a storage bin, they then will have to "cut a hole" in that area, install the new bin, I'll assume they will rivet it in, seal for water leaks, or screw it in someway using stainless steel nuts & bolts (so they don't corrode(no rust aloud)) then re-carpet the area, using the same stuff used by Saturn, walla instant storage space. It will required the GT exhaust (obviuosly). Pretty good ingenuity BTW. Somebody over there is using brain matter rather well

My only recommendation, would be, to limit the weight of whatever will be stuffed in there. With the removal of the OEM pipes and muffler you saved weight, however, you will be adding the GT pipes back in, the hardware for the bin, carpet , etc, that adds back some weight. So my first question would be, how much does the OEM muffler weight? Then I would limit storage to that weight more or less. Another words. I would not put in there a 300 pound bag lets say, or your front wheels might come of the ground---LOL (of course thats the extreme version of what could happen), wanna keep the cars weight balanced if at all possible bwt front/rear IMHO-- MB

Now this is exciting stuff, Eloy! So iffn I want to get the new custom storage, I would have to get the GT exhaust system. Do you have that for the 2.0 RL? What would the cost be for everything, including the new storage??? Just a ballpark figure???

ah, i forgot that your exhaust uses a dual pipe setup with a Y config and 2 smaller mufflers on the sides, rather than a large one in the center.....Well, I haven't look to confirm, but I'm rather sure my Magnaflow exhaust will be in the way......oh well. I guess this is one modification I'll have to pass on.

Great idea and product though.

At around 2930lbs with a weight distribution of 52/48, I wouldnt worry about the balance of the car being thrown off. If anything this set up might bring you closer to 50/50. Of course all this depends on whats in the trunk, top up or down, your own and passenger weight, etc. The bin is made with aluminum so its both light and strong. You guessed right also. Its sealed with silicone and rivets. The GT exhaust doesn't weigh much more than the stock exhaust. The stock exhaust has a HUGE muffler where we use 2 smaller ones.

The GT exhaust fits both the redline and the 2.4 so the storage would work on either car with the exhaust. At this time, a ball park price would be $1650 for the exhaust+extended trunk.

This is the best pitch for an aftermarket exhaust I've seen yet! I still lack the cojones to risk having to fight over my warranty, but you definitely have my attention!

Ask your dealer, or even PM one of our two supporting dealers. You're not going to run into warranty problems with an exhaust. Finally room for a trunk monkey.

I already did. My service writer is a personal friend of mine and told me that the catalytic converter they replaced in my car may not have been covered if I'd had an aftermarket exhaust installed. I know that really shouldn't be the case, and JohnD was kind enough to provide me with information that would back me up, but I still don't want to end up fighting with them (and risking a friendship) over it.

If a mechanic or service writer thinks a catback exhaust would affect the catalytic converter, I suggest never going to that place. They clearly have no clue what they are talking about. Anyhow, I really didn't mean for it to be an exhaust sales pitch. lol. I was looking under my car when I came up with the idea. It didnt hit me until later that the stock exhaust as well as other ones available would cause a problem for this mod. Anyhow, like I told Mark. I wont lie, our GT exhaust is loud as it was designed for maximum power. Heres a clip so you get an idea.

Anyhow, back to topic. I'm trying to get a couple of intches extra in there. My goal is to be able to fit one of these in the extended area.

I totally agree, but when all of the dealers in your area are owned and managed by the same company, you don't have much choice for warranty work unless you want to pay out of pocket. I'd be more willing to take my chances if one hadn't failed already.

I'm sorry for the hijack, by the way- it was quite unintentional. Maybe all these martinis have something to do with it!
