3rd & 4th gears won't engauge!!

going home last night i took off a light and when i got to 3rd nothing...went to 4th nothing, then none of the gears were engauging. so i rolled to a parking lot, turn off the car for couple minutes and then 1st & 2nd worked. 5th and reverse work just not 3rd and 4th. the clutch feels normal and the shifter is loose on 3 and 4. taking it in for service on Monday. Any ideas? Happen to any one?

Sorry to hear this.... just curious... how many miles you got now? I have seen more issues appearing with the RL.. and am wondering if it is worth trading to a RL. TY...SkyBaby

The manual transmissions suck in the Redlines. Mine is grinding in 3rd. At least yours will get fixed, they told me its not an issue that affects driving the car.

Every time I see someone post about these manual transmissions, I think to myself, "Dang, what a hummer".

And as an engineer, I think. I would really like to talk to the engineers that built that transmission. Obviously, it must be a pretty stout baby considering what it was originally designed for. But then I wonder, not knowing squat about how transmission are designed when it comes to load and load rate, what the transient differences are between truck and roadster and if that makes a difference in tranny longevity.

The difference is shift RPMs and syncro design. I would guess the syncros are too small for high RPM shifts. Large syncros make the shifting stiff and they most likley designed them for smooth shifts at the lower RPMs of a truck motor.

Yep I'm willing to put money on that. My car shifts fine for normal driving but anything more than 75% throttle and over 4k it grinds in 3rd.

+1, it did that to me last night at the track, im afraid to shift fast because of this and thats why i cant hit the 13s yet. knowing 3rd gear sucks BALLZ, i shifted slower into it my first run, got a 14.1 @ 101, 2nd run i ran all out and when i hit 3rd and let the clutch out it felt like i put it in second gear cause it jerked and the tires chirped and my whole body lunged forward, like a bad downshift but i was definitely in third. i think my tranny locked up on me . stupid hummer tranny, i want a gto 6spd .

Hmmm....the 3rd gear is interesting considering the one tweak they made for the roadster was to move it from 1.37 to 1.51.

If you lost 3 & 4th it probably is related to the shift fork not properly executing the gear change.

I have no problems with my transmission so far. It has a slight rattle through the shift lever in 5th at some RPMs but it shifts equally well at high and low RPMs. I dont force it into gear but move it briskly and so far no problems at 13K miles.
