Another leaking differential with LSD

Discovered it over the holiday. There has been a whining noise @ 50 to 60 mph almost since day 1, don't know if the two are associated or not. Had noticed oil spots in driveway the last week or so but with five cars in and out all day long it wasn't immediately clear which vehicle it was but I had my suspicions thanks to all who have posted here. Took it in this morning and Saturn confirmed the leak. Waiting for new differential seal, S/B in tomorrow. They say whining (not me) is normal, convertible top noise on passenger side is normal. Oh yeah, 5500 miles as of yesterday.

In spite of it's issues, still love the car............

Good luck with the repair. You might want to ask them if they'd do a full flush on the diff fluid when they do the seal. Also, make sure to check your paperwork to see that they added the LSD additive when they replace your diff fluid. Keep us posted.

Good luck with that! Dealer added an "extention" to the vent tube seems to have fixed the problem, even though it looks mickey moused. Top noise on passenger side check to see if top is sliding correctly (mine wasnt) caused a tear and i'm still waiting to hear what they'll do for me. Dealer had to re-align the window (passenger side) well now the top is "sitting" to low against the windows & putting the top up/down seems to be a problem. rubbing against gaskets

Seal Replaced

Picked up my car today. Replaced seal topped off fluids. Said additive wasn't required because they didnt drain the differential. Will not adjust top or window whichever is causing the air leak in passenger window. It falls within normal limits. Will not adjust trunk lid the uneven lid is similar to others on the lot. Told service rep I would like a call from the regional rep next time he or she is in this area to address my concerns.

Really like the sales team but I'm not real confident with the service department.
Maybe it's me.

Man that's gotta be frustrating that your service department won't make adjustments that are obviously needed. I just had my trunk lid adjusted 2 weeks ago, and they botched the job up...it's worse now than it was before they realigned it... Will be taking the car back on Saturday to have the rear diff leak inspected/evaluated to see what parts need to be ordered...and to have the trunk aligned again.

I hope your regional rep will be able to resolve some of your problems with your dealer service.

I have the new style (since Oct 06) and it now has a whine at 6,000 plus miles when driving 50-60 miles an hr. No leak yet

Rear dif now whining also!

I took my silver Sky in yesterday to the Burlington, WA dealer where I bought it. I explained the whine, from 40 to 60 MPH, comes on with slight throttle, drops off upon coasting. Just like a gap issue that progresses. The whine is getting slowly worse. From 4000 miles to current 8000 miles it has become much more noticeable. (Of course now I listen for it!)

Tech and I took a long ride and he finally heard it. He indicated that a differential module would take 3-5 days to get at the dealership so when it gets a bit worse to give tham notice and they will order the diff and keep my car for a day to replace it when the diff arrives. He had checked GM tech bulletins and this forum for info and didn't bat an eye when I told him I wanted it replaced when it got worse.
