I don't know if mine is leaking, but I definitely feel shift clunk, and a rotating/rubbing noise from the rear while driving at certain rpms. It seems that I get a small clunk when i take my foot off the gas, and then put it down again. Shifting is also rather clunky, and has gotten worse with time. I'm going in tomorrow to see if they can schedule me this week for service. While I'm there, I'm going to ask them to change the oil, re-align my trunk lid (repaint/touch up one spot where the lid has contacted the body), check the window seal alignment on the passenger side, and this differential issue. Looks like I'll be with a loaner for quite a while.

I bought my Sky used, in Oct of '06 fron a Saturn Dealer. It had 7000 miles and cost 30K. First things I noticed were the clunk in the rear, the oil stains on the garage floor, the loose door handles, the leaks in the roof, the misaligned window seals (interior doors), the dead battery, the terrible noises from the AC blower(which still remains a mystery to the dealer), and the WORST of all, 3rd gear not working and reverse not working - on and on it goes.
The differential is replaced, battery replaced, door handles replaced, leak is better, window seals replaced, noises still hanging in there, the AC not fixed yet, the 3rd gear froze up and disabled the entire gear box. Because of 3rd, I could'nt down shift one day and I ran over train tracks at a clip. If I'd hit the breaks, I would have been mushed by the guy behind me. So I drove on, and then I heard a cracking noise! Later I saw that the left side of my car was CRACKED! From a bump in the road, to ruin! I think the crack was initially started in the shop, on the lift.
My car had been in the shop every month for repair and replacement and the quest for the solution to the frozen 3rd gear and the missing reverse and the AC noises. The mechanics knew of the gear problems - so did the Maintenance Mgr. However, when some damage occurred, due to the existing problems with 3rd, I was told to contact MY insurance co.
I told Saturn to keep the car - I would rather lose my hard earned 30K than my life in that death trap. And why should I pay for their mess-up?
So now, they are fixing the car. Of course I haven't had the car since April 15th. It is a good thing I have a spare car! The dealer where I purchased the car would not help me AT ALL. I had to call Saturn in Tennessee and also the owner of the dealership, to get some help. It is still unclear what the extent of the help is. I think I am getting a new transmission and some body work. We'll see?

differential problems

I now have 15,000 miles and experienced my first leak at about 14,000, the second leak shortly after that, next came some tube replacement or something like that and now the differential is being replaced. I asked Saturn how can I be assured the new differential would not cause the same problem and they said there is no guarantee. Still love the car but one would think GM would fix the problem once and for all and stop waisting their money and my time. So far its been in for a week, they shipped the part without the fluid and I am waiting on that to arrive. Could be worse, a friend bought a very expensive German car and in 15 months has had it in for repairs 18 times.

Hi, I will have STORMIE a year Sept 20th , I had no leak untill 24,345 and I really think It was caused by a tire I had to go over in the Intrestate that flew off an 18 wheeler, anyway,,, My guy at Saturn of Mesquite put a new one in and additive and lube ect... I wanted to know if they really had a new and better diffe, and is that what he ordered me,WELL seems at the factory its the way they were installed that makes them leak, so with that said, My guy put mine in correctly and Im going on 26,000 with no leaks, we will see,:anyway thats what I have , hope it helps Skyzthelimit
