Automatic top in the future?

I just returned from setting up my rear diff appointment for next week and had a discussion with....well every manager there basically. They kept taking pics of the car and we discussed all the mods, etc.

Anyway, they have had to take two classes on an automatic top which may present itself within the next couple years. Talk is the Opel will get it first, then the Sky. The lid will automatically open and close, also. It will probably tack on a couple Gs to the price tag, also.

That's all the little birdies told me.

For the added weight, complication and cost I can live without it. I am sure in the summer the top will be down for weeks at a time. -J

Will it automatically take my junk out of the trunk too?

Sigh...

Occasionally, on the rare occasions when I actually have the top up on the SKY, things can shift around in the trunk and wander off to the sides of the Mayan Temple. My camera bag is a good troublemaker in this regard. I attempt to lower the top, it don't go, and so I quickly relocate the camera bag to the small space in front of the air pump...

If I had a power-top in those instances I would either power-crush the camera, or power-warp-the-living-snot out of the top mechanism.

Pass.

Without some significant redesigns of the rear end I don't think I would like it either.

I was told it would be like the 'Vette's convertible top for a comparison.

Although hydraulics does have appeal, I've found the manual approach to be more satisfying.

I donno, after looking at the G6 hardtop convertible I bought yesterday for my daughter AND my neighbors Corvette soft top in action with the automatic, it shouldn't be all that difficult and I don't think it will add any heavy weight. The thing is, it will require a re-designing of the back half of the Sky.. I for one would like it..oh yea, and if they ARE working on it, I would hold off until they produce the bad boy..

Iffn they are gonna do the auto top, then that is when they need to build the trunk extender like Eloy does...and iffn they don't give the little box for storage, then you really need to call Eloy for the extended trunk. I love mine and it keeps everything orderly back there. No muss, no fuss! JohnD, you do have a way with words! What a visual! You are too funny!
I LOVE MY SKY!!!!

I also like the top being manual. All you need is another thing with a motor that's gonna break.....

Automatic Top LOL

Is society that lazy that they need automatic tops? As easy as it is to put the top up manually, I don't see the point. The added weight will just decrease the performance.
Better they should work on increasing power/performance

The only good reason I found for putting the top up, is that it supports my car cover when I store it for the winter. Other than that, the sky only goes out on nice sunny days and the top is always down.
