Big Wheels

I am new to this forum... so I am not sure if this is the best thread to post this.. but I am sure a couple of hundred people will redirect me if I am too far off

My question is related to 20" rims/tires on the Sky RL. As cool as they look (and you KNOW they do) have many of you done it and-- equally as important-- any issues? Rubbing /turning / fit /handling etc...

Much apreciated...

The folks who have done it will be more helpful, but I've seen plenty around town and test drove a car with 20" a while back. Shouldn't be a problem with fit or rubbing as with the increased wheel you use a lower profile tire to keep the outer diameter the same.

Yep. Bigger rims. Lower profile. Diameter same.

Case in point, the new Corvette ZR1 runs 20 inch rims, but actually has a smaller diameter than we do because of the low profile tire. And the nine hundredths of an inch difference is probably eclipsed when the tire is loaded.

Of course, lower profile means stiffer ride and more stress on the rims during impact.

Oridginally the Sky was supposed to have 20 wheels but for the production model it is 19. That is why most speedos are off about 5 MPH...Skip...

You asked for it.....Now you've got it...

The Armano XIX 05-X MF (Black Chrome) '20 are about $400 each.
The Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta tires go for about $180 each.

I got my package for $2,300. in New Jersey.

Hope this information helps... Photo attached

Website: Armano XIX Luxury Wheels
XIX Exotic Alloys was founded in 2005 by the same principles as Armano Luxury Alloys. XIX boasts the same quality and craftsmanship, and timeless designs as its partner Armano. The only difference being XIX is offered in Euro style staggered fitments for some of the finest automobiles in the world such as Bentley’s, Mercedes Benz’, BMW’s, and Range Rover’s. But it doesn’t stop there as XIX has a wide variety of fitments and finishes. All of the XIX wheels come with an unparalleled 3 year chrome warranty and lifetime structural warranty. In just 2 short years XIX is recognized as a leader in the one piece staggered wheel market by industry distributors and luxury car enthusiasts. You have made an investment in a fine luxury vehicle now make an investment in a fine luxury wheel. Unlike other wheel companies that claim to set the trends that others follow XIX wheels is the ultimate in auto couture.

The Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta is the newest ace in the Ultra High Performance (UHP) segment. The Sessanta is based on the strong points of the Ultrac series and has been optimised even further to give very good steering and handling characteristics. Giugiaro Design has given the Ultrac Sessanta an innovative design, with a line pattern that clearly shows that performance comes first. The name Sessanta refers to the sixty years of Vredestein's existence in Enschede. In tribute to Vredestein's unique collaborative partnership with Giugiaro Design, "sixty" will be written in Italian: sessanta. Parametric design - from the drawing board to the shelfThe Ultrac Sessanta is designed parametrically. This means that the tread construction, shape and contours are optimised for every size using mathematical formulae based on design parameters. Each size of the Ultrac Sessanta therefore offers maximum design quality. Benefits Good performance and unique appearance Optimal design quality: profile, construction, design and contours selected according to mathematical formulae for each size Thanks to this ingenious design, the Ultrac Sessanta is asymmetrical but its performance is not directional. This makes the tire exceptionally quiet . Extremely high tracking power, allowing faster cornering Measured correction of the car is possible on bends . Very direct steering feel Optimal contact with the road surface Maximum resistance to lateral forces The car stays more controllable in the most crititcal situations.Speedindex Y: the tire's speed capacity is up to 186 mph/300 km/h !

Fantastic looking rims Tamay.... however if I spent that much on the wheels they would cost about $250K a piece because I would have to factor in the price of my divorce!!

Embarrassed to say I hadnt taken into account the lower profile of the tires to get to the same overall diameter... Guess that's what happens to you when you get your first AARP card in the mail

They are 18s off the line, I think that the 19 quote was a mistake. Huge rims of course do not add up to any performance but if you are more interested in flossin' dubs than your day at the races you are on the right track. (no pun intended)

I stuck with Factory speced 245 45 18's for my aftermarket. I wasn't ready to give up some ride quality for a slightly different look. Plus, the car is so low, it is hard to avoid potholes. Last thing you need is a busted out tire/rim with NO SPARE!

This thread here has a decent 20" wheel discussion: 20" wheel question

The forum software search function is not great. I use google. Add in "site:skyroadster.com" at the beginning to search a single web site.

Thanks for the "hello" Celts...

I want so bad to repond something clever like "I don't talk to fairies" but was afraid that people would think I was homophobic and it would violate the terms of service for the site lol

Thanks again
