I am new to this forum... so I am not sure if this is the best thread to post this.. but I am sure a couple of hundred people will redirect me if I am too far off

My question is related to 20" rims/tires on the Sky RL. As cool as they look (and you KNOW they do) have many of you done it and-- equally as important-- any issues? Rubbing /turning / fit /handling etc...

The folks who have done it will be more helpful, but I've seen plenty around town and test drove a car with 20" a while back. Shouldn't be a problem with fit or rubbing as with the increased wheel you use a lower profile tire to keep the outer diameter the same.

Yep. Bigger rims. Lower profile. Diameter same.

Case in point, the new Corvette ZR1 runs 20 inch rims, but actually has a smaller diameter than we do because of the low profile tire. And the nine hundredths of an inch difference is probably eclipsed when the tire is loaded.

Of course, lower profile means stiffer ride and more stress on the rims during impact.

Oridginally the Sky was supposed to have 20 wheels but for the production model it is 19. That is why most speedos are off about 5 MPH...Skip...

The Armano XIX 05-X MF (Black Chrome) '20 are about $400 each.
The Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta tires go for about $180 each.

I got my package for $2,300. in New Jersey.

Fantastic looking rims Tamay.... however if I spent that much on the wheels they would cost about $250K a piece because I would have to factor in the price of my divorce!!

Embarrassed to say I hadnt taken into account the lower profile of the tires to get to the same overall diameter... Guess that's what happens to you when you get your first AARP card in the mail

They are 18s off the line, I think that the 19 quote was a mistake. Huge rims of course do not add up to any performance but if you are more interested in flossin' dubs than your day at the races you are on the right track. (no pun intended)

Lots of guys with convertibles have trouble with measuring length properly... at least from what I've heard anyways Skip

I stuck with Factory speced 245 45 18's for my aftermarket. I wasn't ready to give up some ride quality for a slightly different look. Plus, the car is so low, it is hard to avoid potholes. Last thing you need is a busted out tire/rim with NO SPARE!

The forum software search function is not great. I use google. Add in "site:skyroadster.com" at the beginning to search a single web site.
