Blue Stains On Tan Top

Yesterday my wife took our Sky to the dealership to have the oil changed, after they were done the service rep asked my wife why she didn;t put the top down, my wife said she wasn;t strong enough to work the top, well the service rep said we will do it for you when it come out if you want, so my wife said ok... well they had washed the car and put the top down WET, when i got home my wife told me what they did, and asked if it was ok to put it down wet.... I quickly went out and put it back up, the carpet in the back had stained the top where it touched it... How can I get the stains out, and should I say something to the service manager about it?

what IS the top made out of anyways?

And I'd mention something, the service manager might actually have some cleaning supplies for you so you wouldn' thave to pay for them.

I would hope it would come out, go grab some soda water in the meantime, that should at least hold you over while you decide

YES, bring it back in and ask them to get the stains out. I"m sure they will do it.

Skyman07-- I would let the service manager clean the top and put it back to its original condition. It was a mistake yes, but you did not do it, your wife did not do it, he did it---he fixes it

I'd be saying something. No good deed goes un-punnished. This is to bad as they were trying to help. Perhaps they didn't realize the implications. It's all a learning curve.

Maybe they need to have the techs read the manual. It is very clear about not putting the top down wet. One morning we had dew and dried it all before we put the top down.

The first thing I did with my tan top was treat it with 303 protectant/waterproofer (for canvas and cloth-not the rubber/vynal stuf). The stuff is amazing - I use it on my boat. Water now beads up and rolls off. A bird dropped an ugly bird bomb on it and the thing just washed off. I would get the stain removed then protect your top.

A ragtop should NEVER be stored down damp or wet. Humidity and mildew will eventually rot the fabric. I know you might be tempted on those "perfect" driving mornings to put it down and go, but don't do it! Dry first, then drive...................

I know that, my wife didn't remember that I had told her that, and why the service advisor didn;t know is beyond me...

Hear is an interview with the Wolfstein guy. He explains how things came to be with their raggtop care products. He also discusses vinyl top care. They explain why they recommend the rag top cleaner and protectant.

Here is another article on how to care for the rag top.

Between the two links above, I would think that one would now know almost everything there is to know about rag top care.

I took my Car in after work, then showed it to the service rep, she was so appogetic, she said she didn't know about not putting the top down wet... well she got their detailer to come out and use something and got the stain out, I asked what he used and all he would say was fabric cleaner... Gee I hope he knew what he was doing.. I am worried now... believe me if something happens to the top now they will be replacing it....
